Gas door replacement

I tried searching for a solution to this one but couldn't find one.

One of the two hinges of the gas door of my 01 max rusted to the point where it cracked. Now, when I try to open it using the release on the door panel, the gas door stays put and doesn't open. I have to manually push the left side of the gas door so that the right side will pop out. Also, the door is not flush with the body of the car when it's closed. The left side somewhat pops out. I'm wondering if I have to replace the whole gas door or maybe just the hinges.

Also, if I order the part, do they come painted? Anyone had any experience with this or can anyone help? Thanks.

This happened to me as well. I had to replace the entire door and with having it painted by the dealer, it was around $100.

damn thats expensive to fix....my pop out mechanism broke on mine and I also had to push it to get it to open but I fixed it by squeezing in two thin metal rods that bend and work kinda like a spring. They bend when its closed and then spring open when I hit the button. Its a pretty ghetto way of fixing it but it works most of the time unless the metal rods move out of position. Maybe you can try that before you spend $100..

I would try that metal rod idea but the hinge is literally cracked so there is nowhere to even squeeze metal rods into.
Guess, I'm spending a 100 bucks....

Look for one at a junk yard off a black car. Just keep them lubed up with white lithium grease.

Replaced mine also

I replaced my gas door last year for about $120 from the stealership. I didn't come pre painted so had to have that done. I would look in the local junk yards first before I would give any money to the stealership.........
