I'm not sure which model Celica this was, but 4 sure it was a 2000/2001..never did see the rear end.
I was cruising around 80mph and could see him coming up behind me fairly quickly on a 2 lane each way piece of highway between Montreal and Toronto. He seemed hot to want to pass me so I pulled over into the slow lane, then booted it. From 80 mph he never stood a chance of pulling up beside me or passing me. We took a couple of runs at it from 70mph, as well as 90mph, but by about 115, he seemed to fizzle each time.

the mean looking front end of that car had me convinced he'd nail me but the Max didnt let me down

my first real kill Yahooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Nice Kill

Was it a GT, or GT-S? I raced a silver 2K GT, he thought he was SO bad a$$. Dumb butt was racing me on this good stretch of highway, I pretty much whipped him, but I knew this road was coming to a SERIOUS turn, so I had to slow down. Too bad for this dude. He didn't want to slow down. He keeps going, cuts me off hard, then goes into the turn. I'll give the new Celica's credit. They have some pep. Can't handle too well. His dumb a$$ spun out and slammed into the wall, then comes out to the middle of the road and stops, and I have to slam on my breaks and and make a major aggressive move to avoid him. Good thing our cars come with ABS.

LoL

I'm 6'6" and weigh 215 lbs. There's NO WAY IN HELL I could ever get a celica. When it was time for me to get a new car, I was all about the Solara V6 with the 5-Speed. But they tried to rip me off on it, so I went over and test drove the Max. I totally fell in love with the car as soon as I took her for a test drive, and now, I think I'm going to be a maxima owner for life. Those Solaras have no personality whatsoever anyway.

6'6"? You are probably one of the tallest maxima owners here....I agree with you totally.....The maxima was the perfect size for me also. Nothing smaller would have worked. I am 6'3" 190......I guess maxima owners tend to be on the big side

Yes, this is the PERFECT car for me. And you too! Since we're pretty big people, we need a big sedan. But with that in mind, the maxima is the best car for us! What other sedan has the size and the power that the maxima has? Well, in the $23K price range that is .

celicas have fast acceleration from 0-60

from what the magazines say, the celica GT-S has a 0-60 time of 6.7, thats about as fast as the MAXIMA , but the lack of torque doesn't allow them to keep up with the MAXIMA on the freeway. slopes, hills, and acceleration while coasting takes a toll on a 4-cylinder with little torque. i raced a GT-S with my friends E420 and i killed it, it was a 94 MBZ too, quite old, but still packed with hp and torque. so good kill, let toyotas and hondas know who is better.

Celica's are really fast. You got lucky. Probably a POS driver or something cuz even a regular celica will make a max eat it's paint.

Oh christ, here we go again.

A 3500lb slushbox 260hp type s is clearly faster than a 5sp max. I mean...edmunds.com tested the type s and got a blazing 6.7/15.0 times out of it. Whats wrong with you maxima people. A 5sp max comes in 15.1 via motortrend. You could never hope to keep up with the s boys. SHessh. Sometimes you just gotta admit defeat. That extra .1 in the 1/4 mile means the S would be like 20 cars ahead. Sure the max got 6.7 also to 60 but its not a vtec motor so................its not as fast.

Flame on!

haha

this guy makes up a acura sn and joins the forum, how lame can you get, spying on the maxima forums and putting in unneccesary remarks, nobody was even talking about racing an acura cl type-s, why the need to waste your time and actually make a screen name.

all I know is that a stock max is not gonna beat a celica, maybe a chance with turbo charger, y pipe, exhaust, intake, 150shot NOS, and so on...

Hmm... well I guess I'm just gonna have to buy one of those imaginary turbo chargers then...

You give too much credit to the celica, a maxima w/ y pipe, exhaust, intake and NOS would lay some serious smack down on cars much faster than a celica.. Celica's CAN be defeated stock.. In fact, many here claim that the higher displacement of the Maxima engine gives it a definitive advantage... Personally, I think it would be a really tight race w/ a 5 spd, but retain faith that our maxima's would win most of the time...

PS.. ignore the acura troll... It's rather apparent that he has been mis-informed and suffers from a superiority complex... according to him, a .1 second difference = 20 car lengths. he's dreaming (i dont' want to do the math), but the fact remains that the results of a type-s vs. max 5spd race are rather indeterminate... Both sides claim many victories, but this guy is arrogant enough to claim that WE CAN NOT POSSIBLY keep up with a TYPE-S.. There are many on this board have PERSONALLY walked a type-s. So either they are lying, or your car isn't as superior as you have been led to believe... Look whose ignoring the facts now...

The race may be tight now, but I can't wait until a shiny new 240hp altima, or 260+hp 6spd maxima s**** all over your "fast" vtec engine.. Rock on NISSAN!!!

let's keep it civil this time around **sigh**

The Celica was the other car I had in mind when I was in the market to buy a new ride. I test drove both cars the same day..1st the Celica GTS, then the Max. No comparison whatsoever. I know they are in different car classes but after that day I KNEW that I would never loose to a NA Celica on the road. Dont get me wrong, I still like the car but since I could afford it...it was an easy choice.

Running 3rd on my wish list was a 2K TL. Thank God I didnt go that route becuz my friend has one and I spank his @$$ every....single....time.

Dude, wtf are you talking about you don't have the new MAx or the Altima yet so don't talk **** about either. Right now you can't beat me at any speed, especially now since I'm not stock. By the way Acura is bringing out a 6sp for the CL-S for the fall, just something for you to think about.

That is true, however Nissan's own numbers for the altima have it doing 0-60 in 6.3 seconds stock.. (manufacturer's numbers often tend to be conservative). With a few mod's I am sure one would be able to take one of those cars into 5 second range...

I wasn't proposing that the results between a 6spd CL-S and one of Nissan's new cars were already known, just pointing out your erroneous statement that a VTEC motor by it's very nature is a superior technology, and guarantees a win against a non-vtec car.. You see, a 260+hp maxima has to perform AT LEAST on the level of the new altima (it is after all, still Nissan's flagship sedan). Currently, you guys have a ~40hp advantage over us, and yet there are many here who would swear that we are still able to hang with you.... It is my belief that the tables will quickly turn as soon as your rather sizeable HP advantage is taken away when the fall vehicles come out. Perhaps the vtec factor isn't as important as you claim...

As for the current situation, are you really proposing that all of the people here who claim to have beaten various acura's are liers? This discussion has been held here (and on the acura forums) many times before, and what really bothers me are your elitist views, and unwillingness to accept the possibility that a Maxima COULD HAVE taken a Type-s... I suggest you climb off your delusional pedestal of superiority before some maxima knocks you off one day..

Wait a sec, so you're saying that the Maxima will kick *** this fall and next year? just checkin ::
Tom Z, give it up. He won't get it. Yeah, the v-tec engine has it's advantages but the maxima is much better. .1 seconds difference on the 1/4 mile and the maxima has 40 less hp.

Preach on brother Tom, all of us on the ORG have your back brotha! . No worries gents. True his car has a HP advantage over ours, but if you're willing to spend some $$, and there are many of us on here who are, you should have no problems putting a Type-S in it's place.
