New Tranny...AGAIN!

As we all know, there is a huge issue with the 3rd gear grind with 6spds.

I took my car in December of 05 to get it replaced. The new tranny had been shifting weird. I thought it was probably because I had Red-Line fluid in my old one and now nissan poured junk into the new one.

Well this past weekend I went to go to swap fluids and put some redline in when I noticed a oil leak out of the casing of the tranny.

I immediatly drove the car to Nissan. Took the tech 4 hrs to determine that it was a bushing leaking??? I said OK. Well today I called to find out where my car was and I was told that the tech replaced the bushing and found that it fixed nothing. The manager told me they couldn't figure it out so they just put another new tranny on order for me.

This is crazy...

My car currently has 53,000 on it. My warrently expires at 60k. The service manager claims that after my car hits 60k, I have no more warrenty on the new tranny. Is this true or does Nissan prorate a warrenty since they replaced they tranny?

I have always heard 12 months/12,000 miles. I would hold them to that. Ask what warranty would be offered if you came in here out of warranty and bought another tranny, what would the warranty period be? This is ideally the same thing, yes it is covered under warranty, but it is a 'new' tranny none-the-less. It should be covered as such!

Should be covered under 12/12,000. I wasn't aware of the 3rd gear grind on 6speeds. Except for the normal notchy feeling of the nissan 6 speed, I have no grinding issues at all

I've always heard 12 / 12,000 also on parts Nissan replaces no matter if it was replaced under or out of warranty (basically, you paid for the warranty when you bought the car so its just like you paid to get the work done, just in a round-about way). So, if you had 51K in Dec, you should have a warranty on the tranny until 63K.

On the back of one of my service forms from the dealer it says Nissan warrantys all work/parts done by the dealer for 12months/12,000 miles. So if they put a new tranny in then it's under warranty for 12,000 miles. So don't let them try to play you.....

Dont mean to be rude but how long you been driveing stick for? Maybe you shouldnt slam the gears or use a high performance clutch cause maybe your burning the oem one.

Hey when they put in the new tranny did they install a new clutch/ did you install a new one. Maybe thats why you're getting that grind issue? Just giving suggestions. Good luck nice ride.

Isn't the drivetrain warranty 75k? In my 2k3 owner's manual, that's what it is. Is it different for the 2k2?

yeah i got the grind, too at ~ 37k iirc and had the tranny replaced...i think it's kind of retarded that just because a synchro goes bad, the entire transmission has to be replaced, but whatever...i haven't had the problem since and i hope i never do again!

I just hit 122,000 miles on my 2K2 and I have not had any issues with the tranny. I'm not that gentle on it either!

Nissan just needs to work on making there manual trannies shift smoother/not so notchy. And the engine mounts on the manual need to be stiffer cause the engine bucks around too much

As of late, I just feel like Nissan cars are getting worse and worse. My family owns plenty of Nissasns, and the newer cars have the most problems. I probably will not buy a Nissan again.

Nissan seems to have a problem with making a manual tranny...

I took out a brand new (120 miles) 05 35th Anniv Ed 350Z with a six speed. That car would grind in every gear, however, it would grind the most comming out of third. Not to mention the clutch... Oh god that clutch was a POS.

I called my dealership and asked one of those 'what if....' questions. The reason (they told me) that they don't offer the 12m/12k mile warranty on the new tranny is because they paid for it. The part is covered, not an additional warranty. He also suggested that you throw a fit if you need work done on it in the next 12/12. I agree that it should be covered for 12/12.

Wow. Didn't realize there were any tranny issues with the 6speed. Just thought it was notchy. Oh well- glad I got the 100k warranty.
