does greasing the 4 bushings inside the cabin do anything? i just slipped mine on. no grease packet came with them, unlike the ES swaybar bushings. i wonder if i should take it apart again and spray them with white lithium or something...

I've been asking for opinions on em, but no one seems to know what they do.

the bushings that go on the vertical screws that keep the shifter ball in place. i think its 2 buthis per screw. they ensure less play in the shifter ball and stalk, so you get a firmer shift. to me, it feels like shifting is "firmer".

I purchased the Watkins STS from an .org member about a year ago, and it did not come with the piece that is installed below the shifter. The only thing I did below the shifter was spray lithium grease to the pivot ball. Can I still install these ES Shifter Stabilizer bushings?

Bumping a two year old thread because I finally installed the 4 sets of bushings for the shifter base. IMO, they do make a difference, not dramatic, but you can feel that shifting is "cleaner" and more solid, for lack of better words. My OEM bushings where in perfect shape, FWIW, but regardless, they were much softer than the polyurethane ones.

Bumping a year old thread.....
When I installed these, I only installed the rear 2 bushings for the shifter base because I was having trouble fitting my hands in had trouble getting the front 2 oem bushings out. Did you guys disconnect the select cable in order to pull out the shifter frame, or did you just mash your hands in and get them swapped with the select cable still connected?
If you disconnected it, how did you do it? Or can you point me to some info on how to disconnect it?
Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks.

That is the part number. Get the black ones which have graphite in them.
got mine from here:

installing them requires two vice grips and lots of patience. They are difficult to squeeze in but WELL worth the effort when done. Too bad they didn't come from the factory like that.

^ hey TallTom,
i just put in my ES shifter bushings. I didnt go buy a locking nut beforehand so i use thread lock. my question is however, when i was tightening the front two nuts inside the car, by front i meant the ones towards the engine bay, not towards the rear, it never got tight; so did i strip the bolts? or did you mean we should use locking nut/thread lock on all nuts? when i realized that i wasnt tightening the front two nuts, i just left them like that since there weren't any play with the whole shifter assembly.
advices would be appreciated.
Jay
