Sat. Radio Install pics

so I am thinking of either getting Sirius or XM in my '01 Max. I am curious to see how it would look though installed and am looking for ideas on units/placement. I am going to hard wire it to my aux input on the bose (Already have the adapter). So lets see what you got.

IMO, correct me if Im wrong here guys, XM has more music and Sirius has more talk shows, IE howard stern, and Opraha I guess now. My vote would be to get an aftermarket deck, and then buy the sat radio adapter so u use the sat radio through your deck..IMO it looks a lot cleaner than havin stuff mounted on the dash..just my .02

correction: sirius is the one with more music and xm has talkshows. But sirius is still better because they have howard stern and still provide all the good music.

I like the music better on XM. And people say that XM has better reception/quality. I didn't mean specifically mounting on dash but in general...

Here's my xm roady 2 installed in ashtray - using tape adapter, as I don't believe there's an aux adapter for the internal 6 disc changer bose. Not a big stern listener, so XM is fine. I've heard reports (though haven't done much research) that xm sound quality is better due to a different compression technique.

looks great. What mount did you use? The thing that would suck though is that I usually put my cell phone in the ash tray. But very interesting. Any1 else?

I have the Starmate Sirius reciever and love it. I put it between the roof and rear view mirror, it fits well there. No pics yet, but soon.

Not on the same topic, but I have a 2001 Nissan Maxima with the Bose Stereo, I was just wondering if anyone knew if there were any open Auxiliary RCA plugs on the rear of the headunit. My girlfriends new Jeep has an Auxiliary RCA plug on the front of the headunit and I can attach my iPod to the car via a auxiliary plug. Just wondering if anyone know if there's an open auxiliary plug on the rear of the stock Bose headunit?

The included swivel bracket sits in the ash tray pretty snugly with some fiddling - no permanent attachment. I can pull the radio out, unplug the cords - and close the ashtray if I every want to carry the xm inside (wish it had a dock though).

My nextel cell phones have always clipped to the change holder.

Poor your cell phone in the door handle. Fits like a glove.

Like I said above, I prefer the hardwired in unit.

Wow, I guess someone left their glasses in my car.

cool pics guys keep 'em coming. I plan to get XM because I have done the trial of both and XM has larger playlists for dance music. In addition people have said that XM tends to drop out less and hass better quality.

Quick question though. I plan to hard wire it to the stereo. Thing is most of the recievers dont have a dedicated line level out but a regular headphone jack and then you can use an adapter that makes it RCA. But isnt the quality usually worse when you use a headphone jack as opposed to a line out type of jack?

Here ya go, Kenwood Excelon deck with Sirius built in. In my opinion this looks much better than having one of the receivers mounted somewhere on your dash. Plus the sound is better as it is now being transmitted to your radio or played through the tape deck...

PS-- Yes I know, the dash kit sucks, my mistake, oh well, no big deal!

hmmm. I def would love to get a HU with it biult in but the hting is I eventually want to get a navi with XM and BT built-in. And there aren't any good ones areound now that have BT. And the XM one from pioneer right now is said to have a crappy navi interface. I have no idea when the new ones are coming out, and what price range will it be. Plus th eunits are cheap now ~$100 and I will directly wire it into the aux input anyway.

How did you get your Sat unit mounted to the left of the steering wheel? Is it mounted to the air vent somehow?

gold007eye that looks like an awesome place for it. Let me ask you though. You dont find the fact that you are blocking a vent like that bad in the summer when u have the A/C running? I mean it is the driver's side vent. Also which mount did you use for that?

Yes it is mounted to the air vent I thought it was a place no one would have it hehe.. All I did was switch the vent closed so no air blows on the back of it and it works out great. You see a minimal amount of wires showing.

Thanks I thought it was a good mounting place too. Honestly it doesn't bother me because I usually keep that vent closed anyway.. I just aim the 1or2 center vents towards me and I am good to go.

I used the airvent clips that came with the car kit.

thanks gold. So how do you find the skyfi2? do you see any benefits of getting it over a roadyXT? And also Im assuming you hard wired it not fm modulated right? IF yes than how do you find the volume level when connected to the stereo?

I got mine at BestBuy. You can try them or XMRadio.com, Crutchfield.com, etc. Yes I hard wired it using the AUX Input (I will attach a pic.) I think SkyFi2 is better then Roady (feature wise, etc) Also one of the big things I like that Roady doesn't have it the "TiVo" like feature... it automatically stores up to the last 30 minutes of whatever you are listening to.. example.. good song comes on as you are about to get groceries.. if you leave the power to the unit on.. you can come back and just go back to the song you were on when you left the car

I drilled a hole in the back of the stereo bracket so that I could run the wires from the back and have as little wire as possible showing after the install

I used to have this unit. I like where you put yours. Mine was next to the stereo. This unit is big and bulky and looks better out of the way.

I would say mine is pretty clean looking . Do you have any pics of your clean install through the head unit? I am curious to see how that would have looked.

03maxima1 that looks awesome and I really like how the roadyXT is slim and sleek.

I would love to do mine like that but it is hard to make out hwo you did it. I can not even see the dock on the bottom. Could you tell us how you installed it with some pics so I can see better? Thanks.

Oh and the sunglass holder would be @#$@# awesome! But I dont see how one would do it and how you would hide the wire. Hopefully that guy can come here and post his pics.
