Blinker bugging out

My driver side blinker light (on the dash display) started flashing much faster than usual the other day. I checked my lights and the driver side turn signal/marker light is out. I expect it's pretty easy to replace, but just wondering...anything else I should worry about with this? Should just need a new bulb, right? Was surprised that the dash display light changed it's blinking speed based on the light going out.

That's what most modern cars do. They blink fast if a light is blown. Just go and change the bulb and that's it.

The dashboard light blinks the same speed as the lights outside the car; they are hooked to the same circuit in a round about fashion. Since the relay is "expecting" a higher load than encountered, the rate at which it cycles is faster than normal. It won't hurt the car unless you plan on leaving the light out for a long period of time as the relay has a certain number of times it can blink before eventually crapping out. Granted, this number equates to a time that is usually longer than most folks own the car (since its some insanly high number of cycles) but they can and do go out.

Short answer, you should be fine unless you left your signal on for, oh, I don't know, a few days!

I think my relay is screwed up. Cause my left blinker still works but the indicator is faster than the right. I don't worry about it though cause when I use to have the old (and I mean OLD) Volvo at first I had to use HAND signals!!! Talk about annoying.

Yep, it's an easy fix. Make sure to refill, maybe even flush, your blinker fluid while you're at it.

I don't know about you guys, but I have an extra bottle in my trunk at all times. My blinkers burn through that fast! I do have nearly 90k so it's no surprise. Plus I upgraded my module with a super-turbocharged, advanced timing and compression ratio, VIAS super great thing. I'm happy with it. People always know which way I'm turning even if I give them the ol' switcheroo.

I stick with MoDil D0 1 Fool Sinthytic brand only. Its hard to find but it seems to do the trick. PreStoned always made mine blink slower... and made them do weird things like search for Doritos or Twinkies or something and watch Scooby Doo reruns. And then, I always had to add water and Advil the next morning...

You may as well set fire to the car... its crap now! And sue the dealer for not asking you to do it when you had your muffler bearings replaced... you have had them at least checked haven't you!?

Only mechanics with years of experience can perform this ... you can loose the muffler, tranny and even the engine if you do it wrong....

Just take it to your nearest Nissan dealership. They'll take care of that, your muffler bearings and your flux capacitator. Make sure you don't pay more than $800 or you are getting screwed. Good luck sir.

thanks for all of the input... i guess i didn't the proper homework before changing the bulb. i went and changed the side marker light, only to find out that it is working fine. it's actually the front turn signal inside the headlight housing itself, on the driver's side. it still blinks, but it's much more dim than the passenger's side. odd.. cause i would have thought it would either work or it wouldn't. should i just try replacing this bulb? thanks again

You're KIDDING!?! You mean I paid $1,956.22 for nothing!? The dealership told me my slotted rotors had eaten through the housing for my blinker fluid, thus pouring it (its highly corrosive!) onto the main (and most of the secondary) muffler input shaft and basically shot my muffler bearings, both transmissions, and not one, but all three MAFs! Now I feel so bad.

Oh, back to the question; the side marker light does not blink (from the factory although there are those who have modified this). The bulb is, as you have discovered, next to the headlight and under the city light. Very easy to replace in the grand scheme of things... much easier than replacing, say, your oil or tranny fluid and about as hard as replacing the air filter...
