So my driver side headlight went out on me. The low beams didn’t work but the high beam worked. When I opened the hood to investigate the reason I saw that my plug that goes into the headlight was fried. I went to AutoZone and got someone to get me a plug. I’ve been trying to install the stupid plug into the prongs but it seems like its not fitting. Is there anything I’m suppose to do with the plug thing to have it fit… it seems a little too small… are there different sizes to these plug things? I’m not inclined the in the wiring issues but it seems pretty easy from what I was told and it’s basically just like spicing the wires together and that’s it… the only issue I have here is that it doesn’t fit. So if anyone has any comments or advices for me on how I can do this and the process of changing that plug it would help a lot! Thanks!

 

You probably don't have the right plug. Auto Zone doesn't sell Nissan factory parts. This is a Nissan part, and you have to buy it directly from Nissan. I would go to the dealer and tell them what you are looking for.

 

Yeah, that's a dealer part. It's a b!tch to replace. The dealer did mine when it went.

 

The plug is specific to the bulb type used and does NOT require a "Nissan" part. If you are looking for factory look under the hood then go to the dealer.

The driver's side died on ours last summer. I purchased a heavy-duty aftermarket plug and spliced it in to the stock harness. I used crimp connectors, covered the inside of the connectors and the wires with dielectic grease and then wrapped it in black tape. Looks decent and I trust my work. I did notice the new plug is MUCH more difficult to seat on the prongs of the plug. FWIW

Are you SURE you have the correct plug???

 

I had the same thing happen last year. When i went to the Dealer, they told me that I need to replace the entire wire harness under the hood about $1,000. I went to three dealers around Chicago and they all told me the same thing. So I saved myself the trouble and just bought the damn thing at Pep Boys for 3 bucks. But this never solved my problem, my driver side headlight still only turns on High Beam, so I just disconnected the high beam cable from the harness and my lights work perfectly. I am thinking it could be a bad relay, but i checked them all and they looked good. So i just left it alone and it has worked fine.

 

sounds like you done the same thing... i tried to fit the plug in but no luck... i'm assuming the AutoZone guy knew what plug to use for my car and found it for me.. it is just a bit different in size from the stock one... but it seems to me it is possible to make it fit... i'm gonna try again this weekend and see how it goes... i need my headlight work!!!

If this doesn't work.. how much did it cost you guys to replace it at the stealership?

 

if it is an H4 and you are not a 5.5 yhen any H4 harness hold work......whihc harness did you get? and one will fit all yo gotta do it wire it up and be on your way

 

yeah i have a 2000 max... the plug harness just doesn't seem to fit in... it seems to be VERY close but doesn't fit in the whole way. I might try to move the clips inside the plug apart a lil bit to see if it helps fitting snuggly in... hopefully i DID get the correct one and that any plug harness will work for my 2000...

 

but sound kind of stupid... but how do i splice the wires correclty... and for the new plug.. do i have to pull out the wires and just twist them onto the harness wires?

 

you might want a friend mechanic to do it for you since u don't want to mess anything up...

 

btw... same thing just happen to a friend of mine... you can go to AutoZone... aparently they can help you there as long as you buy the items there... how thoughtful of AutoZone... good luck! I think it should take like 10 mins max!

 

lemme guess it burned out on you because u had a high wattage blue bulb that resembles HID? hehehe never EVER do that again!
