How to properly lift car?

I bought jackstands in the summer to use when I paint my calipers, change oil, and do anything else underneath the car. However, using the jack that comes with the car, I could not get it high enough to put the jackstands anywhere. So, today, I finally bought a craftsman hydraulic jack. My question is where should I lift the car and put the jackstands? I installed my rear sway bar last week and now I want to tighten it so I can't lift the car from the rear axle and place the stands at the jack points in the frame. Where should I lift in the front and rear? Any pics would be great as I am not all that fluent with the names of all of the parts of the car. Thanks

when you look at the side of the car, along the side, there are 2 grooves a couple inches behind the front wheel well, and a couple inches in front of the rear wheel well. those places are double reinforced, so it wont fold under the weight of the car. dont have pics, but you should see them.

When I was doing some tranny stuff, I jacked it up, and placed the two I had right in the center, nice strong bar goes right along there, had no trouble holding it up, plan to use the same spot when I do struts/springs later on.

I know about the grooves, those are the "jack points" if i remember correctly the manual saying. I just dont know where to put the stands if I lift the car from there...

how about jack the car up from the circular things at the end of the suspension arm and put the jack stand under the grooves?

why dont u lift the engine cross member in the front of the car? theres a little slot for it specifically made for lifting purposes....after u get the car high enough, u will be able to put both jack stands on those groves u are talking about

Thanks man, thats exactly what I needed. I just wish I could use the rear axle, but can't because of the RSB. Guess I'll have to use the ben's jack points and take longer. Ok, thats a lot guys, knew the org would get a relatively quick answer.

Ps, if anyone is interested, sears is having a sale, I got my jack for 60 instead of 80 i think. They had pretty good sales....

ugh, now why'd you have to go and mention that! lol, i've been needing a floor jack for months, and with my RSB, LTBII, and wheel spacers on the way, that should be pretty helpful

I got mine today also because I'm going to get some spacers from a fellow org member on saturday and I wanted to use it then. I was actually going to spend 100 and get the jack, two jack stands, and a creeper, pretty good set, but I will probably just buy the creeper seperately at some point.
