Cleaning throttle body with Sea foam...
I just purchased a can of sea foam deep creep(with spray straw) and wondered if any one has used this one instead of the liquid one. I searched up the sea foam and found that a majority of you guys used the liquid one and dipped the vacuum hose into it.
Ive never done this before and i really dont wanna F up my engine but my car has been idling funny these past few weeks. Should i just open up the throttle body plate and just spray in there? wait 5 min and then run the car on the street? I really would like some feedback if anyone could help me. Again, i dont wanna do this wrong and mess this up.

I wouldn't spray anything into my TB. It seems that anytime someone does something like this their car ends up running even worse and throwing multiple codes. Throw in some FI cleaner, change your spark plugs with HQ ones and keep using the best fuels/filters and call it a day. Just my opinion though.

the liquid in the vacuum hose cleans out the intake manifold.
the spray kind is just for the throttle body.
DO NOT just spray it in there.
open up the throttle plate and rub everything down with a cloth soaked in the spray. do it a few times to clean up all the carbon.

Few times I used a clean cloth and wiped the TB and flap clean from the deposits on it. Only once I spayed a cleaner inside and did no damage to it, though some org'ers reported IACV and TB problems after spaying in TB and having to replace either one or both TB and IACV...
Nowadays I just wipe and I used the liquid SeaFoam through brake booster hose and in engine oil...

There are some horror stories here on the Org from people spraying cleaner into their throttle bodies. It seems to have caused some serious and expensive issues for some.
Everyone in this thread who said it's OK are in 01 or 00 cars without the drive by wire. I don't know if that's the difference or not. I'd just hate to see someone with an 02/03 read this and screw something up.
If I'm wrong let me know. I'd just rather error on the side of caution.
BTW I've used the Sea Foam through the brake line and was happy. Smoothed out the idle some. I got a LOT of smoke the first time @ 75000 miles. I've done it since and havebarely gotten any smoke. It really cleaned it out.

The first time you ever use the one that utilizes the brake line, you'll get a lot of white smoke, especially if you don't usually use FI cleaner that goes in the tank. Be very careful though. the 3 step system from Valvoline actually destroyed my MAF unit and TB sensor on my 2nd gen. My 2k se (which I purchased this weekend also), I'm pretty sure is in need of some type of intake/FI system cleaning, as the CEL is on and there is a sputter in the exhaust with some hesitation on acceleration, but that is due to a bad coil pack. The dealer has one on order and will replace for free.

If you have a 3.5 I wouldn't do it. I have heard so many problems since they use a different throttle control and other TB stuff IIRC. If you have a 3.0 (2k, 2k1) then go for it and have a rag and a long screw driver so you can stick the rag deep into the throttle body.

I have no experience with Sea Foam, but I did wipe out my TB on my 2002 SE with a rag and TB cleaner when I changed my plugs and it screwed up my TB. Right after I put it back together I had a high idle problem, and had to get a new TB in order to fix it. My opinion if you have the drive by wire setup do not touch the TB plate.

Guys after cleaning my TB my idle rpm's went from 750 to 900-950 idle. I want to run Idle Air Volume Learning Procedure for 2K-2K1 withOUT Consult-II Tool but now curious if it's gonna reset my advanced 17 degree timing back to stock 15?

I was gentle with everything. I made the mistake of following a set of 2k/2k1 instructions for cleaning. When I resintalled everything and started the car, I had a rough high idle and my SES light was on. I tried to do all of the reset and learning procedures listed in the How-Tos, but I couldn't get my idle back to normal. The techs at the dealership couldn't fix it either (one of the guys who worked there is an Org member).
If you own a 2k2 or 2k3 model, you have an electronically controlled "drive by wire" throttle. I'm sure that there is a proper way to clean it, but it is certainly NOT as easy as the 2k or 2k1 procedure. Do not screw up your TB.

on my maxima , You can just adjust the Throttle cable , before i cleaned it , It was idleing like 500 and below and i would have to rev it up so it wouldent stall in the winter time , Now i clean it put it back on and it idles 1,500 , So all i did was loosen the Throttle cable bolts and pull it back a couple threads , you can do this when your cars on , Just make sure the cars warmed up when doing it , And youll hear your idle going down.

can someone answer my question a few posts up about manually moving the butterfly plate? I can just push it open without any harm? i hear the 3.5 guys screw up their throttle bodies when they try cleaning it.

5.5 Gens Throttle body cleaning
Guys with 5.5 Gen Maximas(2002-2003)...DO NOT MANUALLY CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY. It is a drive-by wire throttle system. I did mine two weeks ago and when I installed everything back and started up, the rpms wouldn't go below 1500rpm and it threw a check engine light. The idle-air volume learning procedure didn't work. I had to take it to a Nissan Stealership to have the ecu totally reprogrammed for $200. Yikes. I wish I knew. Now you know.

NO nissan dealership will manually clean ANY TB that is "drive by wire". they will only use the intake system cleaning that uses the brake booster.
and this isnt just a Nissan...ANY drive by wire. my wife has an 06 Mazda 6 and the Mazda dealership says the same thing.

well.
I saw someone on the youtube cleaning E-TB using cleaner, and nothing was damaged. and I still can remember the service man did my father's car's E-TB with cleaner several times, and nothing happend. the only different was everytime they cleaned the E-TB, they reset the E-TB and the Gas pedal.
