Header video

I figured since there where a few debates lately bout the noise from having headers and exhausts on our cars... I wanted to make a quick video of mine. I took the video on a LG VX9800 phone that I have. Its kinda hard to record and drive at the same time, especially trying to controll the wheel spin.

I have zero traction in 1st gear, and this was with just taking off the line eassy and flooring it at bout 2300RPM.

Mods are- everything but camshafts, stock redline. HS headers with Cattman exhaust for the exhaust symphony.

You will need the newest QuickTime to view the file.

That is a wonderful sound to hear. Maybe not all the time, but I think I could deal with it (Im not ALWAYS mashing the gas).

You were really bouncing off the limiter in first there. Still looks like you got a pretty good run in there.

Thanks for the vid. I always like this stuff.

I usually don't beat on it too much, the video I took was on a test track we have behind my work. Car is pretty old- 142K+ miles but still runs like a champ.

Most of the time I can break the tires loose in 2nd gear while just rolln on the gas around 30MPH. Can't wait to get the timing advanced via Emanage soon, should free up another 10-15WHP alone.

the LG rules for vids in the car! i love mine!!!

just incase ur looking to post more clips on here from the phone. if u go into the settings on the flix and go for the larger resolution it offers itll play bigger on our computers. only downside is u cant send them when they record that size because the file becomes too large.

Yeah I have it set to record in the highest resolution possible. As for sending the file via "e-mail" I have ran into that problem also- phone says the file is too large.

I have a miniSD card in the phone that I take out and put in my memory card reader to transfer files over from the phone to the PC.

Quality isn't the best, but its one of the best as far as phone video camera goes.

As far as the comments on taking it EZ on the rev limiter and 1st gear.... hehe well I've owned the car for 5 years now, its got 142k+ miles that I put on it myself, and this is not the 1st time shes seen a rev limiter. I'm on my 13th set of tires if that tells ya anything :P 1st gear is pretty useless other than for getting off the line at the street lights. I need to make a video of my friends 350Z getting his azz whopped from a 40MPH roll on by my slow 3.0.

Dude You got to 80mph really fast.. And your rpms never even went below 4500 rpms while shifting.. I think the headers are awesome....

I calculated that I got to 60 in 5.9 sec durring that video and this was with lots of tire spin in 1st gear, bouncing off the rev limiter to regain some traction. I think with a good launch on some slicks I could pull of a low 5 sec to 60 time and 1/4 mile in the 13.6 area. I let off slowly after 70MPH and completly shut down at 80 due to the straight ending. It takes bout 8.5 seconds usually to get to 80MPH from standing still, which really aint too bad. Plus she still gets 32MPG on the highway when driven with fuel economy in mind I love NA power, why you won't see no SC on my car ever... turbo is a whole diff story but that won't happen for a while, maybe when she finally is broken in at 200K miles :P

to all those with headers: have you noticed a drop in MPG's after the install. i imagine for a few months there is a significan decrease due to constant hammering of the right pedal. but, what about long term milage, does that go up or down, or stay the same as stock headers? i am more curious for all the 5.5 gen owners, cuz i have never gotten more than 29 mpg on the highway with the 3.5L.

Some discussion on headers+mpg in this thread:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=456657

Cliffs: Some people lose mpg because they run rich with headers.

Btw, I'm not sure if you're complaining or not, and at the risk of turning this into another mileage thread, 29 mpg is pretty damn good. I've never gotten more than 26 mpg, headers or no headers.

nah, i am not complaining about gas milage at all, especially on the highway. i was more curious about the impact of headers on 3.5l engines. 29 is the highes iv gotten, riding on cruise control at 75 mph.

When the AFR is adjusted properly, gas mileage should at minimum be like it was stock, possibly better.

With tuned AF and same driving style you should get better mileage. The name of the game is efficiency.

my gas mileage actually increased due to the added power and less need of me pushing the accelerator pedal.

Thanx for all the comments guys, shes truly a beast and I love it. Today I did new OEM plugs on her, oil change with Mobil 1 ofcourse, coolant flush, removed the TB completly and cleaned the **** out of the IAC and the TB (now my idle needs to relearn as its runing at bout 900RPM), flushed out the brakes, cleaned the injectors, installed 2 new rear wheel bearings. All I gotta do now is put a new fuel pump in as the stock one doesn't hold pressure after you shut off the car. So I gotta turn the key ON and wait bout 3-4 seconds for the pressure to build up in the gas lines and she will fire up- if I don't do that it has a very hard time fireing up. I spend bout 600 bux on parts today- very little $$$ to keep her runing for another 150K miles.

After all the work today she seems to run even harder than before

I never actually removed the TB completly before just used a rag with some throttle body cleaner on it to whipe down all the grime away from the throttle chamber. This time around I completly removed it and used a tooth brush to clean the IAC and the throttle. There was way too much grime in the IAC so that when I cleaned it the idle was now much higher than before. I had my idle around 750-800 before ( motor mounts I have vibrate the car too bad at 700) and now it seems like it bounced up around 100 more RPMs as there is more air flowing through thanx to the cleaning.

Problems with TB cleaning are usually associated only with the 3.5Ls as people force the TB plate to open up and bend the butterfly a bit causing some leaks around the barrell. This raises the idle speed too high and causes a check engine light. 3.0L is perfectly safe to clean as you can manually crank the throttle open and wash all the stuff away.
