K&N Air Filter HP gain

K&N Air Filter HP gain
im not much of a power person, and i didnt get my car dyno'd before i got my air filter, but i experienced a substantial gain in hp. the guy at kragen's told me it would be 3-5hp at the most, but i think i got anywhere between 5 and 15. there is a turn in my home city, where i can floor it and make it around the turn, with minimal Gs, but once i put the filter in, i had to brake, cuz i almost went off the road. no, its not cuz the road was wet, or my tires are bald or whatever other excuse. this filter gave me some raw power. good cheap upgrade for more power and better fuel economy. not only that, he threw in some cleaner and filter oil for free ($15 value), and the K&N is [obviously] cleanable, and i dont have to replace it.

Ive seen millions of discussions about this. So whats the final verdict, does the K & N cause MAF failure, or just when you over oil it??

headers will give you 10-15 hp. a drop in filter will not. you said it yourself, you did not dyno the car. if you had, you would notice a minimal difference. a cai/wai MAY give a few hp. i know it feels great, because the car is more responsive, but it's just throttle responce time, not horsepower.

I saw in one of dyno threads some time ago, someone did just the K&N drop in filter and showed 5 HP gain... I'm too lazy to search for the thread now, but if anyone has some spare time go for it...

More on topic... If a drop in K&N gives 5-15hp, my Berk must have given me 50-150hp...I am going out to race a Viper!

sorry for the bubble bursting
the car seemed faster around the corner because he wanted it to be. its all mental like the "faster after a wash and wax". he pushed it harder around the corner because he thought he had the extra HP to do it.

I find it funny how Kragen's told him it could get a max of 3-5hp gain. The sales guy probly knew that was well exaggerated, thinking he could use it on the 18 yr old 2 make a sale... and instead of feeling ripped off, he thinks he got 5-15hp gain.
