Maxima with NO BRAKES= Scary!!!!

So i am driving to work and my ABS light comes on and i just kept driving telling myself great now i have to make an appointment at the dealership. so i look ahead and the stop light is yellow and is going to turn red any second. so as i gradully begin to press on the brake pedal i noticed i feel the ABS activating very lighlty. so i stop at the light and begin to realize how much this is going to cost. so light turns green and i'm on my way, about 2 miles up the road another light and the same thing it is going to turn red. so i apply the brakes and nothing is happening, i keep pumping the brakes and i'm not slowing down. after the fifth time i pump the brake finnaly the car comes to a skidding stop. so i pulled over and shut the car off and called a tow truck to bring my car to my local dealership. so i figured i needed to ask if anyone has any idea what this can be?

You didn't pull on the e-brake? Damn. At the first sign of the brakes not sticking, I would've went for the-ebrake.

Something similar happened with my Probe. As I was trying to slow down, the brakes would pump on dry pavement and the ABS light would come on. Stopping distances were greatly increased as a result. I ended up just pulling the ABS fuse and driving the car with regular brakes (non-ABS). The problem I was told is most likely a speed sensor failing or the ABS module itself failing (system things there is slipping and applies ABS "pumping" action even though it's not slipping therefore not needed).

Hmm. I would have put the car in neutral and pulled the ebrake. Actually, pulling the ebrake prevented me from hitting someone in the snow once. The woman just stopped in a minivan in the snow and I stepped on the brake and got nothing with the craptenzas. I pulled the ebrake and turned the wheel all the way to the left and the car spun sideways. When we finally stopped, my friend put the window down and couldn't fit his finger between my car and the van. The ebrake can definitely help when normal braking doesn't work.
