clicking noise near wheels...... grrr

2000 Maxima SE with 50K

Wondering if anybody has any input on this one that I just can't figure out.

Every now and again I hear this clicking noise coming from my wheels. I can't tell which wheel and I really can't tell which side... because I'm driving it when I hear it.. and naturally it sounds like the wheel closest to me, but even with passengers in the car, it sounds like the wheel closest to them.

Regardless, this usually occurs after I ride the brakes a bit down a steep hill. It happens at other times too, but I notice it most often here.

It sounds like there is a nail in my tire.. a metal clicking noise that goes in rhythm with my speed... the faster I go the faster it goes, hense my first thought that I had a nail in my tire (which is not the case).

I replaced all my brakes about 3 months ago, and I've had the clicking problem for the past year... so the brakes didn't seem to be the issue I figure. No other work has been recently performed on the car near the wheels/tires/brakes...

Any ideas?

I'm one of many who had this problem....when i looked into it, i found that it could possibly be wheel bearings, it could possibly be a brake sensor letting you know they need to be replaced. I had it happen during the summer, it sort of just went away after a while but i had my brakes checked and that wasn't the problem. id go with wheel bearing but it could be something else...

With out a doubt.

With out a doubt one of the spring clips or whatever those little silver tabs are on your pads is hitting your rim. Kind of like when you were a kid & you would put a playing card in the spokes of your bike. I speak from experience with this clicking noise .The best way to tell which side is clicking is to drive on the highway near the divider with the window open If it gets louder its the drivers side if not then its the passenger side. When you find it just bend it back. Good luck

I'll have to check that out, but I would think if it something like that, wouldn't it fix itself over time since the repeated contact with the rim would naturally bend it enough out of the way? This has been going on (off and on) for over a year now.

So irritating I'll tell ya that.

I have the exact same noise. I think its coming from the front drivers side wheel. Let me know if you figure it out.
