clutch replacement dif.

How much is inolved in replacing the clutch in a 02 SE 6-speed, HLSD?
I'd like to start getting ready for it now. Any suggestions on where to get a clutch setup? I don't need anything better than stock. I have no plans to mod the car past it's stock form. I have other cars for that.

Are you doing it yourself? It's a big job if you're not mechanically inclined. I normally get OEM parts from courtesyparts.com or through a local garage here. You'll need the clutch disc, pressure plate and throwout bearing. Don't forget to pick up some tranny fluid too. Depending on how many miles you have, you might want to replace the rear main seal while you've got the tranny off.

It's a lot of work. You'll need to dump the fluid, remove both axels, starter and the air intake. It also requires the support cradle for the motor to be unbolted so the motor can be moved around some to get the tranny out. If you're comfortable with those jobs than go for it. If not you may want to get some help.

You'll also need a transmission jack because the gearbox is very heavy and hard to maneuver. As far as I know there is no manual for this job on the 3.5. I used a manual for the 5th gen and a few things were different. I'm familiar with working on cars so it was OK.

I've heard of people messing up the rear seal trying to replace it. Probably best to leave it alone unless it's leaking or looks bad.

I've done the job 3 times (due to faulty aftermarket parts) so if you decide to take it on I can give you a few more specific tips.

Thanks guys.

I think the clutch is ok for a now, but I was looking at the whole deal yesterday. I just got the car and learning what all is needed to work on the car. I have no problem doing the job, but as ya'll mentioned it looked like a big job, and I thought I'd comfirm this with people who have done it. I am sure I will need to call on ya'll when the time comes.
