Aftermarket suspension? Please enter....

So....my "little" experiment with the Tein SS coilovers didnt fair too well. It was def not what I was lookin for. So, I am asking everyone to give some insight to help me out. (The Tein SS coilovers are on eBay...)

Ive read countless threads about different setups on the 5th gen and ive narrowed it down to a few options. Ill go ahead now and tell you what im looking for...

I want something better than stock. That much is for sure. I am a daily driver who likes to speed and hates body roll and oversteer. I go on long road trips with a lot of weight in the car (3-4 adults w/fully loaded trunk). I want something that will give me a smooth ride, but not make me feel like im on a roller coaster. I bottom out the rear end when the car is loaded down, so I would like to eliminate that. Adjustability would be nice but not required. I am a fan of the stock ride height, but I know that by getting aftermarket springs, my car will sit lower. I would like to keep the drop to a minimum without sacrificing performance or handling.

So what do you think? The Illuminas with the H&R's? Illuminas with the Progress? Blues with the H&R's or Blues with the Progress? Stock? Other?

Thanks to everyone.

I have seen those. Thats what helped me narrow it down. They, along with several others, only left me with more questions which I am attempting to get answers to...

I presently have S-tech springs with Illuminas. The ride is a little stiff but acceptable since I am able to adjust the Illuminas. The S-techs will probably be too low for your situation, but the combo of Illuminas and H&Rs should work for you.
Check this site for more info with pics.....http://www.innerbean.com/housecor/sp..._decision.html

since you will alternate between spirited driving by ourself, and long highway trips with a loaded car, the adjustable illuminas will be nice. i took off my h&r springs in the back only last weekend. they were way to low, and rough for my taste. now i have h&rs in the front and oem in teh back, and ride height is almost identical. it looked like the back sagged before with h&rs on the rear. i dont know if i am extra picky, but the ride with softer oem springs in the back is way better now than it was before. the stiffer settings for illuminas will make for better cornering even with oem springs.

Thats what I have heard from Housecor. Does anybody sell just a front pair or the H&R's?

You forgot H-techs. I'd vote for Illuminas/H-techs.

I have Illuminas + H&Rs and am EXTREMELY satisfied. I am also in a similar situation as you. Almost identical to stock ride when the front/read are 2/3 or 2/2.

Definately stiffer and less body roll. I would choose these again in a heartbeat.

none at all so far, I did cut the bumpstops about an inch in front and half of the back(maybe 3/4 of an inch).

I have hit a few rough bumps so far and no bottoming out yet. I am very happy with the new suspension and I am currently running 3/3(a tad bumpier than stock, but still quite smooth if your roads are not poor).

I really have a sportier feel and want to dig into corners, but I drove the interstate for about an hour and the back-roads here in GA, and I sometimes forget that I changed the suspension when I am driving to work/home etc.

I definately reccomend it.

The drop on H&R is not too severe. Coupled with Illumina's, you should be good, even loaded down. If you went progress, you'd probably be too low.
just my 2 cents...

I really wasnt considering the Progress too much. I heard they drop pretty low, and I saw the pics of them on Housecor's site. I just put them up there sice they were the #2 rated by everyone. Or at least it seemed.

thanks for your 2 cents

oh, and yes I have H&Rs all around, the rear is a little lower than the front, but it is not too severe. I am still very happy with the H&Rs. Took about 5 hours to install with 2 people, no big deal.

I found out a while ago about the TSB on the 5th gen for the rears bottoming out. Instructions said to replace the rear springs with a stiffer spring. anyone have this done? would the Illumina/H&R combo (with cut bumpstops) be sufficient?

you know with the tein coilovers you could buy different spring rates. If you buy a lower spring rate the ride is going to be a lot better.

They were expensive enough as it is. Id rather just sell the coilovers and get a strut/spring combo and call it a day.

Most likely any aftermarket springs would be stiff enough to make the difference for the TSB. The H&R are(I think) the softest, yet they are still a significant improvement in stiffness and would probably give you favorable results with your TSB.

I believe a TSB is a technical service bulletin, not a suspension component.

I would go for h-tech/illuminas...I was contemplating which springs to get for a while and I decided on h-techs...illuminas were a given for struts. h-tech is a nice stance and great ride with the illuminas.

so the tein SS were too stiff for you so thats why you are getting rid of them? my JICs ride rough too, but i like the look and the adjustability of them. good luck with the new setup

Okay, just to clarify, I will be installing the Illuminas all the way around, putting the H&R's on the front and OEM (springs) in the rear.

To the guys with the Illuminas, how far did you cut the bumpstops?

Thanx.

Don't worry about cutting the bumpstops. It should be all good.
