Change Struts, Change Springs?

Hey guys, I am bringing my car in to have them check the struts, I think they are gone. Now unfortunately I have the extended warranty, so If they are gone they will be covered, so between that and my 5 month old it means no aftermarket setups for me. My question is, if the struts and shocks get replaced should the springs be replaced too? Or is it all considered one "setup", shocks/struts and springs? Obviously is the springs are overly worn or damaged that they have to be replaced, but if no visible damage should the dealer replace the springs too? Anyone have any opninions?

Springs rarely fail. Unless you go after market, just save your money and keep the ones you have on there. Dealer will NOT replace those unless they are malfunctioning.

Like already said, there's no need to change the springs.

F the stealership-get yourself some Illuminas/lowering springs. You can get a nice set up for less than $550.00 shipped!!

Well, that's good and all, but he did say that his struts were being replaced under warranty and he has a kid that he doesn't want to subject to an aftermarket ride.

If you need replacement springs, I have a used set for $50 + shipping, but you would probably not need them. Although there are some very similar aftermarket rides to stock(H&R + illuminas) it could run you about $600 and that is if you install it yourself, dealership charges another $375.

They most likely will not replace the springs, the shocks come as one piece with nothing mounted on them. They would re-use your springs and top-hat etc.

i dont think they will repalce the shoks for u even under extended warantee, id expect that to be a maintnence item, like brakes. if they do great! if not go for tokico blues, cheap (about $325) and better than stock, for which dealer will charge about $550-600.

Its not that I dont want to subject my kid to the ride, its the fact she takes ALL my money...kids are damn expensive! I know for a fact my front struts are covered but I am not sure if they will do the back shocks. I guess it depends on their attitude when they look at my car.

Swisscheese,

Do you still have the springs? I'm looking for a little bit stiffer ride and less sagging in the back of my I30 and was told Maxima springs will help.

I would PM you but I can only reply to posts at this time.

I believe he is still selling them in the 5th Gen Classifieds forum, as are several others. I would just check there.
