Back on topic: anyone try it yet? (the MAF cleaner, not brokeback you tards!)

 

I'm going to buy some from Carquest and try it on my truck first. CRC does make quality products from what I've seen and heard.

 

I highly doubt it.

 

I bought a can today from Carquest. I paid $5.49 for it.

 

Spray it on and tell us how it does!

 

They have 'em at CarQuest? I'm on that ish tomorrow!

 

They had to order it for me. I gave them the part number 05110 and got it the next day.

I just used some to clean the MAF sensor in my 95 KingCab. It wasn't really dirty but I sprayed it off anyway. The truck has almost 160K miles on it and runs fine so I don't expect any difference in performance. I suppose if you had a little contamination on your sensor you would see a difference after cleaning it.

 

On a serious note, do you actually spray this directly at the sensor and IAT?

 

The instructions say to spray the whole thing inside including the wires and connectors.

Dang, a bit nerve wrecking knowing that our MAFs are already weak....I'd be affraid to spray it

True. I don't have any problem with mine to date at 50K miles. I'm not saying the CRC cleaner would destroy it but unless it has some deposits on the sensor wires in the airstream, I don't plan on cleaning mine.The ones on my truck MAF were clean. I looked at them under a magnifer glass.

 

The Carquests around here don't carry it.

 

i have used electronics parts cleaner in the past. it is also safe to use on plastics so the housing is fine. first time i sprayed it, clear went in and red came out. obviously oil from the k&n. i did not soak the sensor but sprayed it pretty well and have never had any issue of a maf dying.

 

If they sell any CRC products they should be able to order it from one of their warehouses like the one where I live did. Since it's a new product, they may not want to stock it unless there is a demand for it.

 

Alright, I just picked up a can from Kragen Auto Parts. Since my mass air is pretty new, I don't think that it will make that much of a difference. I'll post after the cleaning.

By the way, on my way home from Kragen, my check enging light went on. My Max must have seen the can as I was getting in the car.

Yes, if was kinda funny when I got back in the car with can and saw that the CES light popped on.

Haven't sprayed yet but checked the CES light and got a P0160, Bank 2 Sensor 2. The dealer wants $137.00 for another 02 sensor. I'll do the spray after the oxygen sensor fix.

I went to o'crappo'rieley's today (nearest part store to me) and i told the guy about it and he gave me a can of i think it was crc intake cleaner, well the can clearly had a picture of a TB on the can and i was like thats not it man, the stuff i want says MAF cleaner on the can and he was like thats an maf on the bottle right thur, i asked him if he could order the maf cleaner and he said no... so w/e i didnt feel like arguing or laughing in the rednecks face so i said thanks with a smerk on my face and left.

i used it without any negative side affects. it cleaned the red oil from the maf and has worked like a charm since.

 

This does sound interesting!!!!! I think I'm going to try this out, but need to buy it first!

 

Does anyone know if the MAF fails because it is too dirty to send a reading or if it actually fries? Could this stuff bring a dead MAF back to the living?

Well brake cleaner carb cleaner will both clean Mafs. I have used Carb cleaner ( carefully) on my MAF with no ill effect.
But as they have a 1000F cleaning cycle at startup if its fully fried I doubt cleaner would revive it.

Gonna hunt down an 02 sensor today. If I can get one for a reasonable price, I spray this afternoon.

Just to let you folks know, my MAF is pretty new so I don't know if I will feel a difference.

I've used CRC's contact cleaner to spray my MAF's in the past.

Can't say that I've felt any difference, but a good amount of stuff came out, so I guess it did it's job.

 

I used the contact cleaner today and i could see it cleaned up the little metal thing and i dont have a code so i guess its fine, seems like a have just a tiny bit more pep in the car but its probably all in my head, no major differences as people describe when they get a new maf

 

Yup the pics will tell us all. haha well anyway I would love to see some pics. How do you actually clean your MAF anyway? And how can you actually mess it up while cleaning it?

 

You remove the sucker and spray it down with contact cleaner... or this new stuff everyone is talking about. Let it dry (wont take long, it evaporates very quickly), and re-install it.

 

You're not suppose to wipe it off? How in the world is it suppose to clean with out wiping dirt off?

 

It probably works on the same principle as brake cleaner. It emulsifies dirt/oil and it just drips off. I am going to try this stuff this weekend.

 

^That is correct. I would never actually touch the sensor. That's just asking for trouble.

It's not like there is crap just caked on there. Just a light coating of dirt and other debris.
