SPRAYED THIS EVENING! Since I had to change my starter, I decided to spray the MAF. I actually took the unit out of the housing and sprayed it.

NO DIFFERENCE FELT HERE.

 

I just read a GM TSB a few hours ago for the CTS, read something like:

poor throttle response and slow/sloppy shifting? Check for over/excessively oiled aftermarket air filter first. Oil coats maf, can cause auto transmission slippage and premature failure. Clean or replace maf.

CRC is a quality company, this maybe be the same thing as the electronic cleaner they sell, which is just about the same price BTW

 

Pep Boys sells this. I bought it when we got it in. Just spray on the maf sensor when the car is off and that's it. I use it when I clean the TB and when I do the Seafoam intake cleaning. I work there part time to get the employee discount. Seem like I've spent more money on the cars since I started working there.

 

Got mine today, lets see what happens.

 

I sprayed my maf yesterday...
i'm not sure about any power gains - maybe a little.. maybe in my head ;-)
but definitely theres a huge difference in the way my tranny shifts.
Shifts are smoother and quicker.
when i took out maf i could see dirty residue on it... after spraying it was nice and shiny again ;-)

 

Nice to hear some opinions on this stuff. I sell CRC at my place and we just got this product in a few weeks ago and I was wondering how well it would work so I'm glad to hear some feedback from you guys. I'll have to give it a try myself.

 

I let my Max stretch her legs a little bit on the ride home today. It's not just my imagination. I can't tell if I've gained any power, but my auto is definitely shifting more smoothly. There is no more of the painful slipping that I used to experience.

 

Are you talking about the idle??? Well what do you mean by saying slipping?

 

Well i defenetly gained like 50 hp since using this. This stuff rocks

 

I tried the MAF cleaner today. I didnt even remove the sensor from the maf housing. THe harness to the sensor is long enough for you to hold it to the side of the car. I did like two coats if you want to call it that. It evaporates very quickly so dont worry about any liquid getting in. Just give it a minute. After the cleaning which took like 10 mins. I test drove. I could definately notice cleaner shifts. I have an automatic and when I would really get on it going from first to second was kind of sloppy. It was much more crisp and definative. Also in cruising the shift were more subtle and didnt seem to stall itself so much. Overall a very worthwhile mod. It is no time and the benefits are great. By the way got mine at pep boys in FL.

Did anybody notice that the cleaner dissolves plastic parts of the sensor? I did... lol
I actually thought that I killed my MAF. Surprisingly, it still works, ......... and even better than before.

 

when u guys post "no difference" or "defenatly felt a difference" let us know if ur maf was going out or already bad before u sprayed and symptoms u had that are now gone or not gone. otherwise is worthless.

 

Sorry to bump this thread, but I am tempted to try this product. Has anyone's MAF died from this? I feel like my MAF is on its way out, and would like to try this product on it but not kill it completely...

 

my MAF dies a month after i used this product... I have no idea if its related to usage of this spray or not... but thats what happened ;D

 

mine was fine for a few months, havent driven it since but i assume that it still works

 

i just replace my '02 maf this weekend with an 01' maf w/ iat sensor swap

 

How was your MAF performing before you used it?

 

Just so everybody is clear on this... all that this product does is clean your MAF sensor. You won't exactly "gain power" from using it, but you may notice that your car runs smoother and responds better after you use it IF YOUR MAF SENSOR WAS DIRTY BEFORE YOU USED THIS PRODUCT. If your MAF sensor isn't dirty, cleaning it won't really make much difference. Common sense.

If you happen to have an automatic transmission, there is a TSB out that suggests that a dirty MAF sensor could also have an effect on your shift quality, so you could notice smoother shifting after cleaning your MAF sensor. This is not a miracle product. It merely helps to improve the operation of the MAF sensor by removing buildup and dirt from it. People with oiled air filters such as the K&N drop-in OEM replacement filter or the K&N cone/cylinder filters popular with aftermarket intakes may especially be interested in cleaning their MAF sensors periodically for two reasons. First, these filters are advertised as "free flowing" filters, which means that they may not filter out as many small particles as the "restrictive" stock paper filters (there is some evidence of this on bobistheoilguy.com). Second, these filters are washable and reusable, and some people may have a tendency to over-oil them.

 

I fully realise that all it does it clean a dirty MAF. I just want to know if there are any ill effects, i.e. does the MAF die sooner after use?

 

I haven't used the product yet...but i noticed my shifting got smoother when i cleaned my shift ****

 

I use is many times, no problems, car run better after use. It's sort of like electronic parts cleaner, and dries very fast.

The products are identical, but one is the European package (for sale in France, apparently), and the other one is the North American package (which you will find at auto parts stores in the US). Chemically speaking, the two products are the same thing.

I HAVE A 2K1 AUTOMATIC, AND MINE KINDA FEELS SLOPPY GOING FROM FIRST TO SECOND.........IS THERE A WRITE UP ON HOW TO APPLY THIS STUFF????????????????????????????????

 

Writeup? If you can find the MAF sensor, you can use this stuff. The MAF sensor element is housed inside a tube between the air filter box and the throttle body. It will have some wires plugged into it. Unplug the wires and then remove the sensor from the tube by unscrewing the two screws holding it in place. Once you remove the screws, it may feel like the sensor still doesn't want to come out. It WILL come out. Just pull gently but firmly. The sensor might feel stuck because of the o-ring that seals it in place.

BE CAREFUL WITH THE SENSOR, and follow the instructions on the can. It's a simple matter of spraying the sensor down and letting the excess cleaner evaporate before reinstalling the sensor.

 

I used this stuff on my 03 Max (60k miles) today. I had never replaced or cleaned the MAF sensor before. I was surprised to see the MAF sensor look like nothing more than a paper clip. The directions say to spray 10 - 15 times but I sprayed the plastic body about 2 times and the sensor itself about 4 times. I use a K&N air filter but didn't see any colored runoff. Visually the sensor looked the same before I sprayed it as it did after spraying.

Took it for a drive and haven't really noticed a difference.

 

my question is, has anybody tried this on a bad maf to see if it made it workable?

Oh boy what a difference!!! I sprayed the sensor about 4-5 times for about 3 secs each. I have been wondering why my car was bogging real bad pulling off. I just bought a can of this and cleaned my MAF and the problem is a whole lot better. Better throttle response. The car revs up faster and it pulls harder when I shift gears. So take it from me.....If you have a 5spd and your MAF is dirty then clean it with this stuff. Worked for me.

 

I've been using this product since i got the car with 60k on it now has 116k, Hasn't let me down...great scchhtufff.

 

lol at a thread I started almost 4 years ago about a $3 can of cleaner....still at the top of the forum

 

So ran across this thread, about a week ago my car(2000 SE MT) will idle fine around 700 rpm. If it sits in idle for more than like 10-15 secs it drops down to about 500 rpm and starts to idle rough. MAF issue? or something else. Some people mentioned rough idling so thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance.
