Accident/repair
Someone hit my bumper, pulled it almost completely off. Long story short their insurance gave me an "approved" place to take it. The body shop shop said they try to use old parts from old maximas before they try to use new parts. They gave me an estimate of about $1700. Thats to replace the front bumper[and all associated brackets], repaint whats necessary and change the R fog and main light.
Does this estimate sound right or too low?
thanks

In NY it is your legal right to have your car repaired at the body shop of your choice, it doesn't matter what the circumstances are. Check the VA laws and bring it someone you know. If you have to go to the recommended shop, at least have your body shop (or different body shop if you dont have one) give you an estimate.
My aunt has an 03 grand cherokee, and we have an 02 Envoy.
We crashed both at different times (and not into each other)
Jeep - one headlight, no fog lights, a bumper, a repainted fender, and a grill plus associated brackets=$2,900
Envoy- repaired front and new rear bumper, no headlights or fogs, and a repainted tailgate = $2600
So $1700 sounds ok

Well they did say I could go anywhere I want but w/ a twist. First I have to take it to their "approved" estimator. So say that person says the damage is whatever-1700. I take to a Nissan dealer and they say 2200. I have to pay the difference. So its not really worth it cause I am sure the dealer just uses new parts from the get-go and they are usually more expensive.
