Anyone else thought of this?

Moderators: Please dont move this thread I need alot of opinions and the fluids section dosent get the traffic.

Since our power steering fluid is ATF and it is being put at extreme pressure, would a synthetic ATF improve or help the power steering? At least make it last longer? Just a thought, any opinions would be helpful.

i changed mine a few months back with synthetic atf, no diff whatsoever. i think u should change it every couple years, as its put throgh extreeme pressure its gotta break down. should change ur brake fluid as well, and many never do.

Sorry if this is a bit off-topic, but I hve just recently had my car inspected for plate renewal by one of the larger local shops and they stated that I should have flushed my power steering at the 40k mark (I'm at 42K+) per scheduled mntc. Knowing that they were just trying to milk some extra cash from me, and knowing that I could do the work myself if necessary, I said no thanks, but I did find it odd that power steering fluid would need to be flushed so early.

Checking through both the owners manual and the scheduled mntc manual, I may be blind (or I flipped through too fast), but I do not see anywhere that states the fluid should be flushed. Can someone please confirm/clarify?

i spoke to the dealer, and they were surprised about having to ever change the power steering fluid. Is it in the manual to service?

It's one of those things like the fuel filter... you don't have to do it, and the dealer is clueless about it, but you probably should.
