Exhaust Stinks
Exhaust Stinks
Does anyone else's exhaust stink when they floor it?? Mine smells awful, kinda eggy. It only does it once in a while, when it does my car doesn't pick up as fast. Anybody have any clues or same problems?
Its your main catalytic converter. Need to get it replaced. If you are under 80,000 miles you will fall under the federal warranty and can have the dealer replace it for free.
As far as not picking up fast, that may be a separate issue, but get the main cat replaced and see how it performs after.

I had a feeling it was my cat but was unsure. Would cause the ses to come on? Mine didn't come on, just curios.Yeah i'm under 80,000 miles, i'll probably take it in sometime next week. Thanks.

If I put Shell in it, it stinks really bad. If I use Mobile it doesnt smell at all. But there should be no connection between the smell and failing emission.
Hit me back in about 50,000 miles when your main cat has failed. BTW...what is the Toyota TSB fix? New cat? Hmm....

But you were saying that if it smells than your cat is already gone. What I am saying is that mine smells (depending on the brand of gas that I use) and I still just passed emission in Mass, which the second hardest to pass next to Cali. emissions. So I dont think its correct to say the smell of your exhaust is a deffinit tell-tale sign that your cat is totally gone.
