Have had my new Maxima GLE for about 10 days now and it's been like being delivered from car purgatory after 3 years with our Toyota Avalon....I'm actually having fun driving again(even with the auto).

Today I noticed several pinpoint ****** in the front fascia very close together along with a couple other very small chips, but I'm especially concerned about the tiny holes. I've never watched a car this carefully for paint problems before but just wondered if these "pinholes" rang a bell with anybody else. Are these a paint chip of sorts or what?

Also, was wondering if the in-cabin microfilter is something that needs to be periodically replaced and where exactly it's located. I can't find anything in the manual about it.

I guess I'm a little paranoid about the paint problem, but this car only has 580 miles. A body man I know told me the clear coat and paint on the Max was the thinnest he had ever seen. I really love this car but can't help but sweat a little over this 30 thousand dollar investment and how best to keep it in top shape. Is there anybody out there who can say their paint has been fine?

2 coats of Zaino on so far and thinking about a third. Man, this car is fun to drive. Thanks in advance for any responses.

The in-cabin filter should be replaced periodically. It is located behind the glove box. Look at http://www.courtesyparts.com and I think they have installation structions, which show how to get to it. I believe Nissan recommends it be replaced every 6 months.

I started a thread that became probably one of the largest in this forum on paint chips. It is titled "paint chips on 5th Gen unusually excessive". As a result of all the reaction, I and another forum participant, Michael, put together a web site to capture complaints on this issue. Once we have adequate reponses, we will forward to Nissan. Please visit www.maximapaint.com.

Would your friend at the body shop be basing that comment on cases he has seen or what? Third party comments such as that could prove invaluable as we move this issue forward. Ask him why he came to that conclusion, and would he be willing to be an "expert" if we needed to have one.

thanks, and despite the paint chips, these cars are awesome...enjoy.

I tried to link in from the hyperlink in my previous post and it didn't work. Just key the address in and go to it. I'll add these alternative links in hopes they'll work:

Thanks!
