Towing Capacity with 02 Max?

Hey All,
Just curious if anyone knows the specs on towing capacities with an 02 Max. I'm thinking about buying a pop up camper for the family, and don't know if my max can handle it. I would think that the engine power could easily handle the load, but I don't know about the tranny. Any insight or first-hand feedback would be much appreciated. Peace.

Get a truck. Sedans are not meant for towing.

That was a helpful response. The towing capacity is 1000 lbs with a tongue weight of 110. Basically this is Nissan's way of covering their a$$es. For example, I used to have a Volvo 850 that had a towing capacity of 3500 lbs. Even a Corolla has a towing cap. of 1000 lbs.

when you put the tow bar on the bottom, it can screw up your suspension. my friend had a minivan, and they did it, and the alignment and the stance got all messed up, and had to be readjusted. i don't think it's a good idea to tow anything in a maxima.

Here is what I tow with absolutely no problem. I think that the 1000 Lbs. in the manual is a little low. I've towed more than that before, I don't think I'd strap on a pop up trailer or anything that heavy.

That's a nice setup. Can you see the tow hitch from behind though? I'd hate to have an ugly hitch sticking out the back of the car.

They have those hide-away hitches that you can keep behind the bumper. Also on our envoy, the actual ball comes off (haha ball) and you can put it in the truck... look on google or eBay for the names of aftermarket tongue setups and go from there. A pop up camper seems to be pretty heavy for a car, it would make me very nervous...

Lol that's like asking if buying an H2 for city mileage is a good idea. Honestly, there a lot of things that can go wrong with towing on nearly any sedan.

Yes you can see, but it doesn't stick out that much.

Put on a tranny cooler and change the fluid regularly. That was a concern, but I make sure that I'm taking it easy when towing anything.

That's how I got mine. Ball comes off and all that it looks like is a square cannon pointing out from under the bumper.... wouldn't that be cool...
