How do I remove 2000-2001 headlights I am trying to do AE mod

I am trying to remove the 2000-2001 maxima headlights as we speak. I would like to do the AE mod were I remove the chrome finish in the oem headlights. How do I remove the headlights? I have gotten the four screws that are obvious off located on the tabs. Help me from there please

Read the stickies. There should only be two screws on the top of the lights. There are two tabs that you have to release the headlight from.

Smash them to little pieces with a hammer, they should come out really easy then.

All you have to do is remove the top screws and put some force on it from behind to pop the bottom holders from the clips and the post that is behind the blinker.

I removed the to screws from each headlight and then released the plastic clip on each right next to the bolts. It still feels like the outer corner of each headlight is held back by something Is there another clip or screw behind or on the side of the lights?

first one is always the roughest, once you get the ***** to put some **** into it, and pull it out, you'll see the post on the rear corner that was holding it, and see why it took a little more than expected. good luck.

There is a post that slides into a clip behind the blinkers...

Show that housing who is Boss and use some muscle!

He is un-screwing the post in this pic:

Is the shiny diamond shaped chrome refletor in the mainheadlight supposed to comout to or is it safe to leave it unsecure in the headlight?

Won't the wet towel dry up and catch on fire

Leave the reflector in and no, the towel will not dry up and catch on fire.

Hey upstatemax, I added your suggestion of PlastX to my writeup.

Hey scheibler, Glad to hear your having fun doing the AE mod. I know it does take some time to do but the end result is worth it.

I recently did the AE mod myself (pics up soon). I did the remove the chrome game by using plastx but still wasnt satisfied with the cblack color contrast. I did with the suggestion of someones writeup here on the org I believe and painted them. I couldnt be happier wit hthe results well worth it. I used glossy black engnine enamel. Why engine enamel two reasons. It is paint rated to with stand extreme temps found in engine bay so you know it is going to last. And it takes less coats. Just take the chrome bezel from the housing. It is two screw once you get the housing seperated I believe and spray away. Caution do not spray the chrome reflective housing that the bulb sits in. You can either cover the chrome part of the reflective housing or Just remove the chrome embelze. I painted over the chrome embelze and it emits way more than enought light to be seen at night (people's biggest question). Again I want to reiterate that you do not paint the reflective housing the bulbs sits in only the chrome embelze. Over all very happy with the engine enamel mod. It is well owrth doing and adds just a little bt of professional paint shine to it.

You sprayed over the refector housing?!

Bad idea buddy...Please do not even suggest it as an option for other people to do.

they should just go away when the lights cool. I used plastx produced by the same manufacturer as scratchx. You should try that or another plastic polish

They did not which is what I found so weird.
I have to find some polish. Did you use a polishing tool such as the one that has a cloth and spins quickly?
