Finally hit 300 on a tank!
Finally hit 300 on a tank!
I had never hit 300 miles on a tank of gas until today. I had a tuneup a few weeks ago and the only thing my mechanic did was change the spark plugs(used oem ones). I filled up and for the most part, I didn't granny it too much. On the highway, I used my cruise and always set it at 65mph. Occasionally, I would go to 70-75, but for the most part, I stayed at 65. There was one time last week when a woman who had to be in her upper 60s decided to race me. I hit 105 and threw it into neutral to get the rpm down and she flew past me. It was pretty funny, but I let the car coast in neutral for a good mile. Anyway, I hit 306 miles which beat my previous record of 275. The highway definitely helps to go 65 and not 80 like I used to. If you want to save gas, drive slower!
I regularly break 300 miles/tank if more than 1/3 of it is used on the highway. And here, 80mpg is the minimum.
Of course this is with a 6-speed though.
With all city driving though 260-275 is about right for me too.

i got 350 miles on my last full tank(16 gallons), i was driving city and highway 50/50 but i didnt granny at all. usually i got around 280 on a full tank but then i changed my oil with mobil 1 synthetic and put seafoam in my tank and WOW what a big difference
Ummm....I'm on pace to get 360 out of this tank and I though I was doing bad...My first tank mostly hwy but with stop and go cause of some wrecks I got 29.4, my second tank 24.6 and this tank looks like I'm on pace for about 23mpg.
Seafoam?

Do you dilute 50/50 with gas then let the engine inhale and soak?

.. Damn!...
.. just kidding..!!!! That's good .. did you use 91-93 octane or just regular gas?
you from Yonkers and don't drive more the 65?????
Damn, here in Boston, we honk at anyone who goes less then 65 through the tunnels.
I think they add something to the gasoline in winter, and it makes the milage crappy. anyone heard of that?

With mostly highway driving, I get close to 400 usually before hitting E. Then of course once I hit E, there's actually another 3-4 gallons left.
With mostly city driving, I usually don't get more than 300 before hitting E.
Should I be seafoaming??
They change the gas mix in the winter time typically mixing in fewer additives this may have a mild affect on mileage. But most of your mileage drop happens because of the temp drop. Richer air = more fuel = lower gas mileage.

hmm when you guys say you get about 300 miles per tank do you guys drive till the car is empty? i usually fill the car up once a week and it's roughly at around 240-250 miles before i fill the car up. one time it went to 260'ish miles and the empty light came on. so i'm guessing i'm still under 300 miles per tank eh =/ oh and my last fill up i calculated that i got 18.xx miles per gallon hah
Good God people, As much as I love the Max. I would probably be driving a little civic(embarrassed to say) as my DD if I only got 18mpg's! On my 00 5spd with 182K, a least 1 bad o2 senser and old plugs. I feel I did really really bad if I don't get 400 mpt. about 26mpg's. 400 is average with 30% city, 60% hwy and 10% heavy traffic. the max and I have fun when we feel like too!!! I do wait till the last minute to fill up. It's a bit of a rush searching for that gas station not knowing if your going to make it, pretty sure you get better mileage waiting till the last second, haha...j/k.
My top mpt was 445, avg 85mph loaded down heading to florida... SPRING BREAK 05' BABY!!!! good times!

When I bought my Max (02 - 35K mi), I was getting around 280-290 mpt. Thanks to the great extended warranty I purchased, I had my first MAF replacement (the new "updated" MAF, ECU reprogrammed). After about a tank, I got around 330 mpt city driving. I recently drove down to Miami and got around 380. Ive right under 59k miles, and Im hoping this 60k tuneup (DIY) will help my mileage out a bit more.
i must have a gas guzzler then because i get 280-290 max off super on mostly straight, non stopping roads. Then again my heavy 18's with 245/45's can't be helping much. can't wait to put proper sized tires on....
I have an 80 mi round trip to work every day mostly on back roads. I can usually drive around 50 mph w/ a few stop signs and red lights. I'll get 350 on a tank if I wait for the light to come on.
When my wife was driving the car she had a highway commute (70 - 80 mph). She may have gotten better gas mileage (I really don't know) but the damage the car sustained from driving at highway speeds is incredible. My hood and bumper look like they've been through a war zone. Rust is starting to form where rocks have chipped the paint away on the hood. I recently got a quote of $1,000 to repaint the hood and bumper. Whatever increased gas mileage my wife had, I'm sure it didn't save us $1,000!!
Worthless Nissan paint!
