Fuel light very conservative
#1
Is it just me or is the fuel level light very covservative? This afternoon my light came on, I drove roughly twenty five miles, then proceeded to fill the tank with 14.8 gallons. So the light came on when the tank was less than 14 gallons empty, or still had what? 4-4.5 gallons or so in the tank?

I went on a trip last weekend, it was about 140 miles each way and I started out with less than a full tank. The low fuel light came on long before I got home, and I was gripping the wheel, wondering when it would run out of fuel. The needle got to a hair above empty, then I got to my exit and got gas. How many gallons did it take to fill up? ==> only 15.34
The light is very conservative.

Fuel light
I'll usually drive until the needle is covering the E line-
When I fill, I put in 16-16.5 gallons, so that means that two gallons are left.
Ignore the light. When you get to the E-line, you've got 50 miles to find a gas station.

The fuel pump is cooled by the gas in the tank. Letting the gas get low is a sure way to get premature fuel pump failure. And it probably won't fail while it's still under warranty either. I usually try to fill up when the gauge reads around half a tank. For sure at a quarter tank. And I only use Chevron Supreme or premium at Costco. Costco claims to have the cleanest gas, filters on their pumps, etc.
