Is it just me or is the fuel level light very covservative? This afternoon my light came on, I drove roughly twenty five miles, then proceeded to fill the tank with 14.8 gallons. So the light came on when the tank was less than 14 gallons empty, or still had what? 4-4.5 gallons or so in the tank?

Yeah a little bit conservative, but it helps when your in the middle of no-where between Dallas and Denver trust me.

The Accord V6 has a 17.1 gallon tank, and the fuel light comes on just as you hit 3.1 gallons left (14.1 gallons used), so that's a little more conservative than ours.

It is conservative. I have never had to fill up with more than 15 gallons. That is with the needle all the way at the bottom.

Our tank must be larger than 18 gallons. I put 67.5 litres (3.5 L = 1 US Gal). That comes out to something like 19 gallons of gas, so like a 20 gallon tank.

Could it be another Canadian advantage?

3.785L = 1 US Gal, and not 3.5L (dunno where you got that). That'll throw off your calculation by a good bit

Gas Tank

The tank is 18.5 gallons. I read it somewhere, maybe the manual or in Consumer Reports.

I went on a trip last weekend, it was about 140 miles each way and I started out with less than a full tank. The low fuel light came on long before I got home, and I was gripping the wheel, wondering when it would run out of fuel. The needle got to a hair above empty, then I got to my exit and got gas. How many gallons did it take to fill up? ==> only 15.34
The light is very conservative.

Fuel light

I'll usually drive until the needle is covering the E line-
When I fill, I put in 16-16.5 gallons, so that means that two gallons are left.

Ignore the light. When you get to the E-line, you've got 50 miles to find a gas station.

I'm glad it's conservative. Especially because I fill up only at Chevrons so it gives me the chance to get to one just in case I'm in the middle of nowhere.

The fuel pump is cooled by the gas in the tank. Letting the gas get low is a sure way to get premature fuel pump failure. And it probably won't fail while it's still under warranty either. I usually try to fill up when the gauge reads around half a tank. For sure at a quarter tank. And I only use Chevron Supreme or premium at Costco. Costco claims to have the cleanest gas, filters on their pumps, etc.

I heard that and when you let it get down passed a half of a tank you have fuel, you starve your pump. so, I try to keep it passed a half of a tank too.
