Why would I get the LED version as opposed to these (CCFL)
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-E...QQcmdZViewItem
These are supposed to be brighter, as for longevity, I am not sure, but the price point is pretty much the same...

Basically, at the end of the day, it looks like we've found ourselves good alternatives to DDEs.

Personally, I'm gonna' want those bad boys on all the damn time -- so I'll probably just ground mine, do the fog light mod, and call it a day. =)

No, you need to get A33B headlights for these to be applicable.

To blue for my taste.
What do you mean by installing them "right"? Many people here including myself installed them as per umnitza's instructions and now there toast.

I was one of the first ones to buy them when they came out & when I did, there wasn't any instructions about sealing up ballasts and such, is that what you mean?

I wore rubber gloves while installing my DDE's too. It keeps the insides of your headlight much cleaner (no skin oils) and also keeps you from gluing your fingers to the headlight.
I've installed DDE's before

I've custom built (bent) CCFL's and made DDE's before

rubbing alcohol/window cleaner does a great job at cleaning stuff. Having glass housings helps aswell

no, you've found the poormans alternative

CCFL's are thinner and the light is uniform and brighter, overall a much cleaner look.

I've built sets for <$25 but it takes some skill

I use a relay and use the yellow markers to provide the signal.

This way you can leave them off if you want. Plus I hate the look of aftermarket switches in cars, they always look cheap and tacky

You bet! I'm picking mine up from my shipper on Tuesday and when I get a little time off work, I'll be painting my headlight housings, clearing the amber turn signals and installing these LED Angels (WHITE). I'll post some pics as soon as it's done. I plan on wiring mine so they come on with the ignition ( on day or night, we have daytime running lights up here) which a switch hidden under the dash ( out of plain view) just incase I get any grief from the law.

Sure the LED tubes look a little thicker, and maybe the light is not as strong, BFD. They're also 1/6 of the price! And the reliability can't be any worse!

Glad to see another excellent writeup nice job Saucisse! , I ordered a "white" set, can't wait to get them in, they look great, durable and cheap! I'll post pics when I get my "White's" installed. I know there are one or two others who have chosen to go this route rather than the Umnitzas. Here's the ebay link:

Great install. I'd rather buy a set in white though. Why not wire them up to your parking lamps?

All options look good for angel eyes. It all depends on personal taste which one you like better. Some people like a switch so they can turn it on and off whenever they like. It does look cool without any other light on in the dark!

They didn't send out any instructions at all for my kit. They also forgot to put in the spade connector as well. I know my Umnitzas have definitely NOT been affected by water either. There's been no rain here this year yet and the humidity hasn't even gone above 30% since I installed them. I haven't washed my car with them installed yet either, but now I'm kind of nervous to.

The DDE's are supposed to last 20,000 hours. I had a ring die on me in 27 minutes. It worked perfect at first and then it slowly stopped working.

LOL...Mine are ever worse. 1 headlight isn't working at all, while 1 ring in the other headlight emits purple light. I'm even on my 2nd set of ballasts.

I know Canadian winters can be harsh, but I think the quality of the Umnitza DDE's are really poor and shouldn't die so quickly.

I wouldn't recommend anyone DDEs if they have cold weathers..those things are not all-season friendly. they were made for CA weather it seems.
