Manual Transmission leak

Has anyone on here had a problem with the manual transmission leaking? My driver side seal failed in Nov04 and i had it replaced twice (NOV04, JUL05) but the problem still exists. I am wondering if anyone else had this problem. Both times it was replaced by nissan and didnt take. I am thinking that they either neglected to replace/reattach the snap ring, While removing/reinstalling they scratched the sealing surface, or the shaft is marred and doesnt create a seal at one point. If anyone else has experienced this please chime in and give me some direction. I am replacing my suspension "soon" (whenever the dustboots/bumpstops from redlinemax.com come, WTF?) and am thinking of getting in there and seeing what i can find. If its one of the first two listed above im calling nissan regional service manager and getting tehm to pay for it. but im just trying to get a feel for anything in particular i should look for. Whatever, let me know.

P.S. im PISSED.

i can only assume you have the same problem most 4th gen 5spd maximas have, replacing the seal will only be a temporary fix. the bearings were not shimmed properly from the factory and cause the seal to stretch which in turn explains the leaking. I also have a leaking A32 tranny, and i got quoted a rediculous amount from nissan to fix it. basically its all labour to replace 20$ bearings. not sure if this is your problem, i dont know if nissan fixed this problem with the 5th gen but it does sound like similar problems to mine.

Which bearings are these? are they in the tranny? or on the halfshaft?

Do a search - there's tons of info on this on the .org If you still have a powertrain warranty, push the issue with your dealer to get it fixed.
Good luck

Yeah, my dealer helping me out, that hilarious.

im seriously considering reporting my dealer to the nissan regional service manager. everytime i go there the job isnt done right and the problem returns. that is if it is "fixed" in the first place. I am to the point that i will forgo driving nissans, which i think are the best cars on the road, just to avoid having to deal with the service departments.

P.S. blkonblk thanks for the link
