I am curious what you guys are paying for insurance b/c it seems that I am paying way too much. Also what companies are you guys going through. I recently got a quote from progressive for $1,700 every six months and thats with no accidents in the past five years, but one ticket 5mph over(I know f*&^ing lame cop!)

Where do you live? That will have a big part of it. I have progressive and I pay 2100 a year, that was the cheapest I found (I'm 23 with no tickets in last 4 years)

I have USAA ins. and I pay $86 a month, which equates to about $520 every 6. I also have 3 tickets still on my record (yes, I drive like an *******). USAA is kind of a military-only company, but if you can get in, it's a hell of a good deal. My 96 Camry V6LE ran me about $71 a month. Good luck!

I am 27 have two tickets (speed) and pay for 300/500 with a 250 deductable and pay about 550/6 months. Not the best but I could do much worse. I know you will get some deductions at 21 or 22 and at 25 and when you get married. For some reason getting married makes you responsible?

Good luck

You guys should try Allstate... I get cheaper rates from them. Geico wouldn't touch me and Progressive was sky high. I pay about 147/month.

USAA is the best. My neon got broken into and they replaced everything within a week. No questions asked. Gotta love em.

I'm paying a decent rate of ~$800 per year with State Farm. Probably has to do with above mentioned reasons: I'm 25, married, more than 1 car, no tickets/accidents (wood ), and higher deductible of $500. I'm pretty happy because that's unusual for State Farm to be competitive in rates with anybody.

You've got email! I'm actually a year younger so you might get better rates. I do have a renter's policy with them so that saves me some cash too. It might save you money to get a renter's insurance policy since they are cheap and then give you 10% off your auto insurance.

I have 2 girls too. 6 and 2. My 6 year old can indentify Maximas in seconds. She thinks Maximas are the best cars on the road. I swear... I haven't brain-washed her.

(Paul and 6 year-old Daughter driving down the street)

Paul: Hey honey, let's play a game!

Daughter: Cool Daddy, what are we gonna play?

Paul: How about "Pin the tail on the ugly Hondas and Toyotas" Everytime you see a Honda or Toyota, make a face at the driver and if you do it 10 times, we'll go to Disneyland!"

Daughter: Woohoo!

Paul: And if you say "Maximas rule," you'll get ice cream too!

Daughter: I love you Dad! By the way, I love Maximas.

Paul: I love you too!

Sorry guys, counting down to the Laker game.

LMAO! Now I can keep them busy on road trips. My 2 year old will do everything the older one does. Abby already complains about the slow minivans.

its alittle higher...

I checked them all... (i'm on USAA for about $900 per yr) and found that the Max is about 15-20% higher than a V6 Accord.. that is pretty consistant across all companies.

I forgot to say... my $810 a year premium includes a 100,000 bumper to bumper GEICO breakdown warranty. And my deductible is $250.

Prudential / NJ

Here in Auto Insurance Hell, (well, actually,
Philadelphia is the center of Auto Insurance
Hell, but NJ is close to the center ) I pay $1066
per year for 100/300, $500 deductible. I'm married,
35 & have one speeding ticket.

By way of contrast, my wife's 95 Accord EX Wagon
is about $900 per year, so I don't consider $1066
excessive for a 1 year old car.

The rates don't seem very logical, when I sold my 96 Odyssey and bought my 94 J30, it went up about $100/yr. The value of the Odyssey is way higher than the J30, therefore it should have cost more to insure. Maybe it costs more if the car has more power (210 hp V6 vs. 140 hp I4).

Insurance companies determine rates partially by the type of vehicle you have and the likelihood that they're are going to have to pay out for damages. It is probably more likely that you'll speed and drive recklessly in a J30 than a family style minivan like the Odyssey. That's why your premium went up.

I am paying 1400 Canadian (yearly), and that is with 1 my-fault accident, and I think 1 or 2 speeding tickets still on my record (6 years). Up here we run under a no-fault insurance scheme so I am not too sure how well that translates.

It would have cost me over 1800 to insure a base hatchback Civic! (fortunately I came to my senses!)

Oh, Paul... Try getting them to say "Smoke that rice job, Daddy!"

It might be where I have it insured. When I had my Camry out in San Diego, it was around $163 a month, same # of tickets. When I got transferred out to VA, I made my state of residence NC (dad lives in Charlotte), and it dropped like a rock. CA is about the greediest state in the union, but I was still pretty surprised at the rate drop. My deductible is $500, with $100 for theft/vandalism. Even if another company matched the price, I'd still stick with USAA cause when someone smacked into my Camry's right rear quarter, my claim was filed in about an hour and the car fixed within a week, and that's only due to the body shop being backed up. There was no hassle, rate change or questions whatsoever. Can't beat that...
