hesitation particularly in 2nd gear...

I have a 2000 SE with 85,000 miles and there is a noticable hesitation particularly in 2nd gear. It also seems like there is a slight loss of power upon acceleration. There is no cel and the maf is only a few months old. Is there anything that could cause this without throwing a cel such as 02 sensors, bad injector, bad coil, bad fuel filter.....? Just checking to see if anyone else has experienced this and what they did to fix the problem. I am running premium gas, so, I don't think that is the problem.

I know it's simple, and you've probably already checked it, but what's your air filter look like. I was having some hesitation issues and dropped in a fresh filter...problem solved.

It is in good shape. The only thing I have not changed is the fuel filter. This is because I am lazy and it seems like a biatch to change since it is in the tank. Has anyone experience hesitation and changing the fuel filter fixed the problem?
