Cracked my headlight!

On the highway yesterday driving to work and I was stuck behind an industrial dumptruck. The traffic was relatively heavy so I couldn't get away from him. Then I see a dark object fall from the truck and start bouncing along. I watched the golf-ball size rock take 4 hops, and then that fateful 5th bounce right into the front of the car. I get to work and check the damage...left headlight is cracked horizontally right through the center.

Welllppp, time to upgrade to 2k2-2k3 headlights. I see a bunch on Ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NISSA...58835710QQrdZ1 for 289.95 each plus $15 shipping for housing, bulbs, and ballasts. Supposedly they are brandnew. Is that the going rate or can I get them cheaper somewhere else?

Also, what type of modification has to be done to get these to fit into a 2001? I've tried searching but everyone is so tight with this HID info.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Yeah, this is a perfect excuse to pick up and install a set of HID's. Those ones you listed in the Ebay link are replicas to our HID's. They are not EOM, so don't expect EOM quality (which is better BTW). Buy legitimate ones, not the stolen cracked tabs ones. For instructions, you would have to thru a process of showing proof for your purchase and someone will most probably hit you up with the instructions. Sorry, that is what everyone has to go thru since these lights are popular to thieves. Good luck!

Have any links or contacts where I can get some prices on the real HID's?

Not off hand. Check here on the .org in the classifieds. Sometimes you may find someone selling a set. Also, keep searching on Ebay, you'll find someone honest and selling a good set or one headlight in great shape. But, act quick on these, because they sell very quickly from "snipers" winning at the closing seconds of the auction.

Holy ****!, I can't afford nearly $1500 for new headlights. I'm not sure it would even be worth the money for me.

I guess I'll have to go with some other options:

1.) Ebay replicas (about $600)
or
2.) CustomMaxima Angel Eye Projectors {$330} and Helios 7000K H3 HID Kit {$275} (total about $600)

Suggestions?

Don't get the CustomMaxima projectors, either... Their light output is horrible (so I've read) and they aren't made for HID's. I would check out some local salvage yards and see what you can find. Also look in the buy/sell section... Someone sold some Depo 02/03 lights for about $275 (but no bulbs/ballasts). I saw on ebay not too long ago the bulbs/ballasts for $100ish, too. You may want to consider reporting this to your insurance; they might provide you with some $$$ if it's covered. Good luck with whatever you decide, though.

Random thought just occurred to me... Since you're browsing ebay, stay away from djsmokie86... This person has multiple auctions for a single set of headlights. I'm pretty sure this is some type of listing or policy violation, so I reported his 6 auctions for the same 2 headlights to ebay.

Do you have a nightshot of your 7000K? I wanted to get 7000K for the slight blueish tint.

If you're going to go with the projectors and an HID kit... do yourself a favor and get a kit with a color temp as close to 4300K as possible. I had a kit in my other Maxima which was 8000K and it hurt my eyes to drive at night. They were about as bright as my halogen bulbs. With my OE 4300K reflector HIDs I can see much better.

The blue tint you seek is in the projector. That is from the cutoff. If you retro some actual xenon projectors into the light housing, you'll get that blue color at your cutoff that you desire.
