Here you can see how dirty the fuel filter gets, even though Nissan recommends not to change it.

Stealership will not do it as they say that it is not necessary. You have to do it yourself. There's a great writeup in the HOW-TO on how to do it. IT's an EASY job but it's very tedious. It took me 2 hours because I couldn't get one of the hoses unplugged (so I just cut it off. )

The filter is in the gas tank. I'll never understand why Nissan did that. Every other major car company makes them a maintance item except Nissan.

Yea, I talked to my mechanic about it when I was getting a tune up. He was going to do it but said that it was in the tank and generally not recommended to change. He said that a lot ov vans and suvs do it and more cars are starting to do it. Why? I have no idea, but its stupid. I want mine changed and I am at nearly 51k. I am going to seafoam again(I didn't use much last time) and then put the rest in my tank. I want to clean out my fuel system because my mileage was horrible, around 18.5ish. Now, its up to 19.7 and still going up I'd imagine. The only thing that was changed were my plugs. I want to clean fuel injectors and change the filter and I'd hope to get around 21mpg.
