This is definitely the most annoying thing about my otherwise nice car. It's a 2000 Max SE and the damn Blose stereo won't work in the mornings when it's humid unless the AC is running. I can't drive to work with the windows open because the POS will just not read a CD. This, plus the fact these head units clearly have no memory buffer (good shock absorption but sometimes I can hit a stiff bump and it will skip immediately; i.e. no memory buffer, which even a $30 discman has these days) really instills such a hatred of Bose. Insult to injury, I can' teven replace the head unit without a bunch of extra crap so that the silly speakers' impedence will be compatible.

At least its sound quality is decent (when it works). Oh yeah, the tape doesn't work, so i can't hook up an mp3 unless I get a radio transmitter.

I feel u man, my bose skips out when the car is just started, and then when you change the song, its like a 5 second delay before it plays. It occcasionally skips out even when the car is warmed up. I just got it, I can't wait to see what the humidity will be like...

Amen to that, and some good, but cost efficient stuff out there. Head to the Audio and Electronics forum if interested,

dude.... same problem in my SUXXX (Bose) CD player, doesn't even play enough time toi consider it skipping.. If i put a burned cd in there it would almost play once.... A YEAR AGO

I gave up... though i will never add an aftermarket dash to my beautiful console... there are parts that give you an input (AUXNISS) and have a 1 gig shuffle.. never worry aboiut music again... always works cheaper than a new HU and lookst much nicer than the frankenstein addition of aftermarket parts in my otherwise beautiful DASH.

MY $0.02.

makes me glad I didn't get a max with bose... but for some reason my stock head unit, also made by clarion will play just about anything I put in it. I took out a dvd head unit to put the stock one back in because the dvd unit didn't like cd's

honestly it used to make a difference with heater on and cold air in my old MAXIMA... but this one... just friggin laughs when i put a cd in... scratches it... then says 'Err' .... no matter what, cold/hot out heat or A/c. Period.

If you pay that i will shoot you. You can get a new head unit for that much

Personally i have never had mine do that works fine since day one the only thing is the volume know sometimes i have to push it down so i can adjust the volume that way, but hey for a car i hae had since day 1 and now has 90k im pretty happy.

Have you run a CD lens cleaner through it? I put a Bose from a 02 Pathfinder in my Max and it skipped whenever I played burned discs until I cleaned the lens.

I've not tried that. I've tried a bit of compressed air, but not a lens cleaner...that is probably a good idea, actually. Maybe I can replace the brush with steel wool and put this damn thing in its grave
