2k2 Transmission Problems
2k2 Transmission Problems
Hello all, today I was sitting in a parking lot, turned off TCS, put it in drive and did a pretty long burnout..on the way home trans felt like it was stuck in like 2nd or 3rd, it wouldn't take off. Got home, turned off, and turned back on and the AT Check light started flashing. I turned car off and then back on and it wasn't blinking anymore...took it down to the stealership and am having them check it out now.....anyone have any ideas?? thanks..I know its kinda vague and like most of the stupid posts on here, but if anyone has any ideas it would be great help thanks in advance guys!
I had the same exact thing happen to me a few weeks ago. Dont know why it does it..it was the first and last time i do a burnout in the car lol but nothing to worry about turned it off..and than back on and it was fine. only thing was the intake sounded sick taking off in 3rd lol.
ya, should have posted and then waited for a response before I took it in..I just thought with how bad our transmissions are(at least thats what Ive heard) I should take it in ASAP. O well I guess 2 hours and 80 bucks later....all they did was hook it up to the consult and take it for a ride and their like couldn't duplicate problem. I was trying to check the codes the ghetto method and the service guy saw me and then accused me of clearing the codes.hehe...I guess I should be happy he at least knew what I was doin with all the pedal stompin and key turnin I was doing..thanks guys!
I had this EXACT SAME ISSUE only I did not do burnouts. I had a post on here about my issue and no one knew what it could possibly be. The diagnostic code I got was P0720 I believe.
In any event, I did some research. The service manual states that it COULD be an issue with the connection between the ECM, TCM, and the revolution sensor. There could be a faulty sensor somewhere.
I took it to the stealership and after they cleared my check engine light and told me it was ok, 2 days later they had to check it again. I was informed that it could be the vehicle's speed sensor. This is a sensor on the transmission that tells it when to change gears. Called Courtesy and they said the part was about $40. I will need to see how it is installed before I buy it though. I will let you know the outcome.

When I first got my 6 speed, the most popular question from my friends was "did you do a burnout yet?" and my response was "no i just got it im afraid". I'm also afraid of paying for a new transmission. Autozone and Advance autoparts doesn't charge to check what the codes are, and sometimes they will clear it for you
Finally took it to the stealership. They let me know that my issue was a 'revolution sensor' - take a look at the workshop manual for the connections. The cost to fix/replace was about 250, this is after the 80 dollar discount they owed me for telling me nothing was wrong in the first place. In any event, go to the stealership and ask them about this issue; instead of telling you 'its the transmission, buy a new car' they will probably say 'we'll fix it for 330'.
If you are DIY, just get the part from courtesy nissan, I dont think there is any write up on how to install this, I have done a little research and I couldn't find one. If you can, let me know and post the write up! It would be helpful to those with this issue (seems common on high mileage max's w/ 95k+).
Again, if you have the work shop manual, you could probably do the replacement yourself if you are so inclined; it doesn't tell you explicitly how to do it.

obviously none of you 18 year olds are paying for anything on your car so mom and dad will pick up the bill when you need new tires, a new tranny, or a new car. Just because its like that doesnt mean you can drive like a rebel and do whatever you want.....one day itll catch up to you.

From the looks of the location in the 2002 Max FSM it looks like the rev sensor and vehicle speed sensors are on the firewall side of the transmission and held in place by a single bolt. If you can access it from beneath you can probably disconnect the harness connectors, remove the bolt and replace the old sensor with a new one. The diagram on page AT-285 shows a good photo of the sensors locations.

haha if a manufacturer makes a car such that it can do burnouts...why not...and if I had a wife...even one that wanted to do such things, then yes I would. But as I have learned from people on here, burning out does bad things to your car, so I haven't done so in a while.

I tried to say this in not so many words and got banned...thanks for rephrasing it in such a way...I can't believe people think that just cuz we are 18 we don't pay for our stuff...just because all the other people didn't work their asses off at 18 to pay for a nice max, doesn't mean were spoiled....thanks hooper!!!

I had a 93 Altima (auto no less) and was in love with the burn out until one day my reverse didn't work. The gears had all slipped after revving in neutral and slamming into drive for the peel out. The tranny was never the same but to fix it I had to rev in neutral and slam in reverse! Kinda scary with the jerk motion but it fixed it. I did that twice and the second time was the last. The solution above is the way to go
