MAF, or Knock sensor is the question

OK guys, My car seems to be lacking power sometimes, and others it pulls hard and feels great. I'll give ya a little more info

2002 se 6spd, HLSD(as if this matters)

There does seem to be a miss at idle, very small though.
there are no other signs of running problems, other than the mentioned power loss issue at times. I have not found any set patteren to this. Meaning its not a "only does it under X conditions". It's all and any conditions it can do loss it's power. I've read, and know the knock sensor can cause these issues, but I have also read that they are not noted for going bad on 5.5 gen. I have also read lots about the MAF on these cars ( it is the AM600 model).

Just trying to get an idea of what some of ya'll think I should focus on first?

O p.s what is up wit hthe throttle response on this thing? I am having a hard time getting the hang of it. I give it gas and go let the clutch out but it's not reving yet.

So two problems correct?? poor acceleration and VERY slight miss at idle...
My guess is that the former is directly related to the later.

The knock sensor is PROBABLY picking up the knocking noise experienced under extreme load and retarding the timing.. A knock sensor can hear a knock much better than you or I, so not being able to feel or hear it would be pretty irrevelant..It's probably not bad, but rather doing its job.

I would get the slight mis problem fixed first, that will probably fix your acceleration and possible throttle response problem you mentioned.

Take it to a reputable dealer which will use a CONSULT scanner to look at the data list to see what is going on.

Do you have a check engine light ?

What kinda gas are you using ?

How many miles on the car ?

It could be numerous things causing your problems. A good tech with bout 1 hour worth of diagnosis time should be able to pin point the problem.

Good point 5thgen, didn't even dawn on me

I guess it's time to take a ride down the road and read the data to see if 1st there are any knocks picked up. then go from there.

I use quality 93 gas. I am going to check the front three plugs today.

The plugs are the org. and have 60K on them. Should I think about replacing them just in general?

Thanks good to know. I think I am going to replace them. Iwant to pull the intake and clean it, and figured it would be a good time to get that out of the way.
