muffler/exhaust questions

2k2 SE 6spd with upd, i/h/y

i still have a stock b-pipe and some crappy muffler the previous owner put on to sound more cool. (dont' recognize it. far as i can tell it says No.1!)

i want to complete my catback system. so i think i'm getting the cattman b-pipe, but for the muffler, it's a bit of a dilemma.

i'm leaning towards a stock muffler. from what i understand, mufflers do little to nothing for power. and without hurting power i want it as quiet as possible. A quick search showed that any 5th gen muffler is internally identical, but the tips are different. Just to clarify/verify... an 02 GLE is the same as an 02 GXE? because the GXE can be found for much cheaper.

or am i just completely wrong and muffler's do benefit the whp/wtq? is 2002 better than 2000 or 2001?? will a cattman muffler really show gains?

SO...
IF a muffler doesnt' do crap.... which is the quietest and cheapest?

OR IF a muffler DOES show gains... which is the best?

sorry, my search didn't prove that useful. anyhelp would be greatly appreciated.

Ive never done exaust work to my car, but i herd, in order to get the full potential out of an exaust system, you need headers, its like tryin to drink out of a kinked straw with out them

I guess a good way to go for a deep not so obvious but louder than stock sound is the cattman system, y-pipe and b-pipe with the stock muffler.

you have a sweet nopi muffler my friend..... see enough of em around here in the land of nopi. I dont know what you should do for exhaust but you should get rid of that no matter what.

If your not planning on headers then go ahead and get an exhaust like cattman but if you get headers be warned it will be loud. From what I hear the muffler section doesnt do much because the 5th gen muffler is pretty high flowing. I think the most you will gain from changing the muffler maybe 2-3 hp.

Ok... did nobody read my post?

i/h/y already installed.

as in... intake, headers, y-pipe.... from K&N, cattman, cattman respectively.

my only question is about my MUFFLER. i know what to do from my headers down to my b-pipe. but my MUFFLER/ REAR SECTION is the dilemma

it seems like i'm right in that muffler's don't do crap.

so is an 02 GLE muffler same as 02 GXE? because for some odd reason the GLE is almost $80 more expensive. if i'm gonna spend that much money... might as well go with a cattman. any thoughts?

Its probly cause of that stupid chrome finisher that nissan charged you out the @$$ for. I think they both have that same variable-capacity muffler, so shouldnt be different.

cool. thanks steven88. it's set then. cattman b with a stock gxe muffler.

after another tuning sess... we'll see if my last dyno of 261whp/261wtq was legit. *crossing fingers*

i doubt its legit...but then again, i can't say anything until another dyno is conducted...however, according to your previous dyno, there was a weird cut off and larrio said something about, if the machine is not hooked up properly, the #s will become screwed up...the 261whp doesn't seem too off...do you know what your #s are in SAE? STD will generally give you higher #s...also your running very rich up top....and your still pushing real good #s...kinda sounds fishy

but anyway..let us know how it goes...interested in seeing a second dyno
