3.0 Six speed ???

I have looked and looked, but can't find anything showing if it is possible to swap a six speed from a 3.5 into a 3.0 5gen. Are the bellhousing bolts even the same. I know the shift setup is totally diff, and the clutch setup is different. Has anyone ever attempted? Any input is appreciated.

I have both 3.0 and 3.5 blocks in my garage right now and the bellhousings are identical. All VQ trannies will bolt to all VQ blocks. But the 6-speed swap is a real pain in the @ss due to cable vs rod driven shift linkage. Plus, most people who would want to do this swap would do 3.5 at the same time. But the 6-speed gearing would still be a very good match for the 3.0, and highway gas mileage would be great...

i definitely love the idea of 6 speed but wish it were easier to do. My tranny is giving me no problems but with what i want to do in the future and if i keep my car long enough, i would like to do the 6 speed swap and hopefully its a lot easier when i'm ready for it...

I've just been wondering because I have a six speed tranny that needs some repairs. It would be very cost effective for me to fix it though, and if I could find a donor car for the shifter and linkage I may think about trying it. Especially because the six speed has a LSD. Anyways thanks for the replies.

I appreciate it. I haven't even begun to look in to wiring differences, sensors, mounts, etc, etc. I did believe that the bellhousing bolt holes might have been the same since they are the same engine family. I am also going to compare input shafts to see what kind of clutch setup I will need to use. If I do decide to do this swap I will photograph all steps and do a write up.

I cant remember who either, but it must be nice to do 80mph at around 2000 rpm.

Tilley has a 6 speed and 3.5 in his 4 gen. The hardest part would be the swap of the cable shifterbox, but that can't be too hard, You just mount the box and run the cables to the tranny.
