should i sell my auto and buy a stck??

Is it a good idea to sell my auto and buy a stick?? Reason I ask is because im getting tired of my auto tranny and I found a good deal for a stick. Only thinf is the stick has about 75xxx miles on it and is a 2000 se, while my auto only has 61000 and is a 2001 gle. I already have a lot of mods in my auto but im pretty sure i could move them to this car in about 2 days work. Also im sc pretty soon so im guessing that it would better for me to have the manual tranny car??? Anyway is anybody aware of any diff between these two years reliabilty wise??? One last question is that since I live in NV and if I buy the car from CA would I have to pay taxes??? I have a NV tax exempt and just wondering on how I could make this work. Thanks in advance.

So you want to switch to a year older car with 15,000 more miles just so you can get a manual? Not worth it at all in my opinion. If you must stay with a 5th Gen Max, why don't you consider a 2K2 6-Speed?

It depends on what your priorities are. If you want to get a stick shift because everyone says it's fun to drive and such, I'd say don't bother, just does not worth the trouble. If you always wanted one just couldn't find a good deal, by all means, go for it.

If you know how to drive it, it doesn't matter where you drive. I live in a hilly area in NYC (lots of traffic & lots off uphill starts) and have no problem with driving a stick, so don't make the area where you live affect your final decision.

As far as I know 2001 is a bit more reliable than 2000, but I'll let someone else answer this.

You pay taxes where you register the vehicle, so if you live in NV and you are a NV tax exempt I'm pretty sure that you won't have to pay any taxes. But check with your local DMV to confirm that.

Wow i was in the same situation last week, however the manual one had only 68k and the auto 83k, i went from a Gle to an Se.To be honest i really wanted a manual maxima and i definetly agree with the opinions staeted above, the only thing i suggest it`s buy the car manual from factory, if you decide to swap trannys..not worth it..IMO, for that sell your car(use the money for the swap) and get yourself a 6speed anyway just make the desicion that makes more sense to you.

edit.As far as mods you can definetly swap..after all it took me 2 days but at the end it was worth it.

well, seems like u got a few choises:

swap a manual, goo choise considering u already have mods.

id only trade the car if its an even trade, more miles and a 00, noit as good as 01. however if the car is really mint i would do it. i got my 00 with 73k.

most sensible option would be to find an 02 6spd for a lil more money if thats possible for you thats defenatly the best choise, newer car, 6 spd, and 3.5!!!

yeah, I agree with above post, spend a little more and get '02 6 speed. that will prolly be my next car, although I'll prolly drive the wheels off this car before getting anything.

reason I really like this one cause I think I might be able to get it for about $8300 and its pretty loaded, it has leather seats, sunroof, 18 enkeis w/ 235/40/18 toyo's, clarion DXZ745MP headunit, tociko shocks, h&r loworing springs, clear sidemarkers, piaa fogs, anniversary sills, and maf and have already been replaced. Its also black the color I've been looking for, as opposed to my sterling mist. Do you guys think its a good deal??? Cuz my plan is to move all my mods to this car, s/c it since I alrady bought the s/c, but haven't installed it bcuz I'm worried that my auto tranny wont be able to handle it, and also Ive always wanted a stick. The owner also agreed to meet half way which is about 2 hours drive. I thought about the 6 speed 3.5,s and they were all about a good 6 or 7K more than this one. Also I plan on selling mine for about 11k. I guess if all things go right I might actuall get the stick I wanted, get rid of the auto and make a few k's
