warspeed y-pipe

So i had the pipe installed today. Was a major PITA. Almsot everybolt had to be cut off and it was quite tedious work. Once it was up, the fitment was pretty tight. It lowed the pipe above the crossmember, and raised the pipe that curves above the axle in the back to connect to the muffler. Adjusting some hangers helped out quite a bit, but I think I may still add some washers to the crossmember to lower just a tad bit more.

Question on sound. Its not quiet, at all. Its not extremely loud though. I can deffinately make out my engine reving over the tone. But is it normal to have extra nooise comming from the y-pipe itself, or could it just be a small leak i need to tighten up? If its normal, eh I'll deal with it. I technically have a OEM exhuast, got everything replaced with bosal replacement parts from auto zone.

Yeah, Y-Pipes are going to be loud as they allow more flow. Notice any power gains? I hear anywhere from 18-20HP is gained from a decent Y-Pipe.

That's a bit of a stretch. 10 or so would be more like it.

Yes, it's normal for the y-pipe to increase the exhaust note some.

You can add more washers or just remove the cross member all together. You will notice no difference with it on or off. If the pipe is new, I see that warpspeed has never fixed the poor fitment/quality issues.

ypipe adds a throaty sound to the exhaust tone. i wouldnt say that the ypipe itself is "making the sound". its enabling the sound by removing the precats

ya, i know its going to inscrease the exhaust tone. I just stuck my head down and looked under to see if I could hear it comming from the front of the car, like from the pipe. I'm gonna check tonight.

Are you sure that its fine to remove the crossmember? I know there were 2 pieces that went across, the one further back broke off before, but its ok to remove the bigger beefier one? I just want to make sure. I have a feeling if I try to take the bolts off they will just break because thats what happened to the lsat one.

borrowing sciffs image*

it looks like he has the one closest to the Cat removed, which is the one i'm talking about. The one farther back, you can still see its there, is the one that is already off of my car. Do either of these do anything? I'm not going to be changing the frame connections by having both of them removed?

well, I just got some hose clamps and wrapped them around the rubber hanger to give it more support. Hopefully this will work out fine. Anyone have any other suggestions or am I ok with this?

My WarpSpeed y-pipe fit great! The issue I had was the OEM Y-pipe had two hangers that the WarpSpeed does not have. I fixed this my adding a hanger after the flex-pipe section.

also remember that you are eliminating the Cat heat shields, which block some of the noise from the stock forward exhaust.....another reason you can hear the ypipe more.

thanks irish, after I raised it a little bit it no longer is rattling and resonating some of the sounds through my car. Its barely audible at idle but once i rev i can hear it. I think it just sounds diff right now for me and i'll get used to it in a week or so.

hey merovi, is this warpspeed ypipe from scopium? if so, glad you finally got it...

and yes the car should sound noticeably louder....what kind if noise do you hear exactly? if it's a "hissing" noise then it could be a leak...why don't u get a friend to rev the engine for you...while your down there and put your hands over the flex section...or where the flanges meet? that would give you some quick answers

nope, this pipe is from a different seller. I paid for this, recieved it, and installed it in less time then it took scopium to repsond to my e-mails.

the noise is not a hissing, more of an exhuast noise. I'm prety sure irish is right and its just louder because the precat is removed, that is even the specific area that it was louder from. With car running, i couldn't feel any leaks around the cat connection or the flex so I dont think I have a problem. I just wasn't expecting it ya know?

i see what you mean....i have full 2.5 inch cat-less exhaust all the way to the stock axle back....its real quiet...but still nowhere near "stock" quiet...if you know what i mean...i also have a short ram intake

i know this for a fact...becuz i was driving another local's 6spd max....its completely stock...and that car is way more quiet than my full exhaust max with stock rear...

bottom line is, just becuz you have a stock rear rection, won't mean your car will sound 100% stock...my exhaust tone is quite a bit louder than stock, especially under gear...at idle and low RPMs, its pretty close to stock...but you can still notice it

another point that needs to be made is that each time you change a component of the intake/exhaust system (intake, filter, ypipe, catback, etc) it can affect the sound of other parts of the system.

For example, since a ypipe allows increased airflow exiting the engine, it also causes increased airflow (in theory) through the intake - this increased airflow could cause your intake or filter to hiss, depending on what you use.....

well, I have a GAB, but i'm thinking in a few weeks to get a berk/apexi combo. As for my cat-back, its not stock, but its OEM. ever since I replaced it its had a different tone, so i'm sure its the combination of the 2. I drove it tonight with no rattle and it sounded real good. Overall, i'm extremely happy with it, minus the fitting issues i'll work out later.
