is 1000 high idle & IACV
is 1000 high idle & IACV
I am trying to sell my car and I don't want to end up getting screwed... But I know absolutely nothing about cars... the potential buyer says he thinks the high idle of 1000 rpms means that there is defianetly something wrong with the IACV... Well what I want to know is wouldn't there be any other problems if there were something wrong with it ???
I know 3 years ago when I bought the car my bro thought it was high so I asked nissan about it, and they said it was normal. But nissan has never treated me right, or told me anything that I should believe, but I am hoping they didn't lie about that being normal =/
Well anything you could tell me about it would be helpful. so sorry if this is a repost but I tried searching, maybe I am not searching with the right keywords but couldn't find any answers I was looking for. Please help

assuming that the car is fully warmed up, 1000 rpm during idle is pretty high. normally, our cars will idle around 650 rpm after the car warms up.
when you just start the engine (after the car has been sitting for a while) the car will idle at around 1500 rpms until the engine reaches the normal temperature.
I would have the iacv checked.

i could be the iacv, if so a new one is about $205 shipped and takes 30 min to install, so dont let anyone tell you its a big job. i would go to a dealer and ask them to do the idle relearn procedure (10 seconds of work). if that doesnt work i guess it may be iacv, also check you intake connections.
you can also find the manual way to do idle relearn here but i lost the link for it. another way to adjust the idle is right on the throttle body, it is a PITA tho.
by the way i have an iacv for sale, its used but works 100%, $50 shipped.

Don't start throwing parts at it! A high idle could be a lot of things and if you don't know what to look for just take it to a TRUSTED shop and let them find out what up with your car. 1000 rpm IS high and needs to be fixed.
if your idle is at 1000 that isn't normal... but in my experience, when the IACV goes bad it may throw a code, stall frequently and without warning, or both.
that is in our cars anyway
mine just went bad and it shorted out the computer which is a grand... if you've never had it replaced then it may be on it's way out. BUT, it also could be a TB adjustment made previously or without your knowledge.
Take it to someone you trust or someone on the org in your area... i have learned quite a bit from this forum about our cars that local nissan Dealerships don't talk about or even know.... not to mention non nissan trained mechaniics!
