Tinting Sunroof

i got my car tinted over xmas break, and the place said that they would not tint the sunroof. Being in texas, the summers suck and a ton of heat comes through the sunroof, even with the slide closed under it. How much does it cost to get just the roof done, and why will some places do it and not others? tia.

Someone posted in this thread that he wanted to get his tinted and the place wouldnt do it because they are affraid of the dark colored tint attracting more heat which could cause the sunroof to shatter. No idea if this is true or not.

I've had all my windows tinted 5% limo including my sunroof since I bought my Max. 4 years later in the hot Cali sun....no problems!

most places will not do it because it's hard to align the sunroof perfectly, if they have to take it off to tint. serveral places here will not do it for this reason; they say too many cars leak after tinting.

leaks were another big concern of mine. Oh well.. guess i won't do it. Not worth the potential suckage that would be a leaky sunroof.

I've had mine tinted for about 3 years now and I've had no problems (20%). I forget what it cost but it was really cheap $20-$40.

You don't need to take the sunroof out to tint it. Shop around for a place that will.

the ghetto cheap way would be to buy some static cling tint and put it on there...

dont think it will effect the sliding of the sunroof

i have all my windows tinted @ 20% and my sunroof done @ 35%. looks nice and keps the heat out!!!.....and NO you do not have to take the sunroof out to tint it as i even watched them do it. therefore, that would eliminate any possible sunroof leakage.

The place where I got my Llumar on five windows said they'd do the sunroof but the warranty would not apply.

I've had 35% tint since 2001 w/out removal of the sunroof and my interior is noticably cooler.

I have 20% tint on my sunroof as well... it hasnt been a problem yet and doubt it will be. It is nice for the middle of the day when the sun is high. It really does keep the heat out.

I tinted the sunroof glass about 7 years ago in my first integra and it was still fine last time i was in it about 6 months ago (one of my friends owns it now).

you don't neccesarily have to take the sunroof out to tint it. My tint guy did the sunroof at no extra charge with it in the closed position. AND i did my last sunroof by taking it out(96 I30)....no problems with that one. In my op;inion, just lay out some clothes all over the front seats and dash and the floor in the rear and tackle it yourself with some tint from Advanced Autoparts or similar. def wear some eye protection, soapy water in eyes will make you take longer on the job. I've had mine tinted and i love it, definitely keeps the head cool with the 20% tint and i don't have to worry abotu sliding the shade closed when i leave the car for a few minutes and don't want my seat to be burning hot. It's a great thing to have. I SAY DO IT! tinting isn't that hard especially with the sunroof cause it's virtually flat. Just spray, cut, peel then squegee it's madd easy. Do it, you'll appreciate it.

Whoa, I got mine tinted like 2 years ago with 22% for $50 or something like that. They did a flawless job. No removal of the roof was necessary.

yea it really does make a big difference. I have like a bluish purple color on my sunroof and it blocks the sun like Shaq blocking a midget's shot. Mine was done over at this place in Oak Cliff. Where did you get yours done?

i got it done at solar-scape on Grapevine Hwy in Hurst. About 5 minutes from my house. This tint is charcoal in color, like the rest of my windows. I'm pleased.

Wow, with all of these Northerners, it's nice to see some Texas people. I am thinking of getting all of my tint redone since the sun has faded the tint that was originally on it from when I bought the car new in Dec 99... Wonder what it would cost to remove/re-tint... This is for my 00 GLE.
