A/C problem?

Hey guys, started using a/c again this year, and when its on, there is a clicking sound, the a/c works fine, but the engine is just generally louder when its on and it can only be heard while standing outside of the car, or at least thats what my friend told me. You cant hear a difference inside. Prob jus the fans working? I just got the car a couple of weeks ago and the dealer told me they serviced it for me.

Well, it could be a belt issue. Possibly your compressor? I would look into those two items. Of course mine clicks too, but it blows colder than ice so

don't know about the clicking sound, but it's normal for the engine to sound louder with the AC on.

Same kind of issue. The clicking is the compressor clutch engaging when you turn on the AC. Mine seems to be a little noiser than I remember. I installed a UDP and changed the belts at that time. Anyone heard any issues with the AC after the install of a UDP. I guess now is a good time to be asking... Any feedback is welcome.

Is it a rattling type noise or a click on and then click off every once in a while ? Rattling noise could be due to a compressor going bad. Compressor going bad could be caused by the lack of oil in the AC system, which has wore out the compressor internally. Also make sure that the idler pulley right next to the alternator is not bad, I've repleaced 3 on my Max in the last 150K miles.

The AC makes a slight squealing sound when I turn it on and goes away when I turn it off. How durable are the compressor bearings? I can't think it would be the idler pulley since it only makes the noise when the AC is on. I would guess that the idler pully is design to be the weakest link in that system... am I right? I didn't think that I made the belts to tight when I installed my UDP.
