need help w/ aunt's maxima

its an 01SE w/89000 miles and this weekend the brake and battery light both came on at the same time. after trying to drive home from our lakehouse she broke down about halfway... everything just went dead. i imediately thought it was the alternator. the relay switches under the hood for the headlights and tail lights and such kept making a loud clicking. went ahead and jumped it and i drove it home for and it did fine. the battery and brake light went off and we made it how.... now im stumped im going to test the alternator tom. but wanted some imput........thanks in advance.

sounds like the altenator is starting to go; when my alternator started to go, the brake light, battery light, abs light and airbag light all went on - but they were dimly lit.

Just did this job for a friend with a 01'. Same symptoms with TCS and Slip light on also. Took about an hour to replace. Just need to unbolt the compressor to make room to wiggle it out. Don't forget to charge up the battery while replacing, you don't want to overload a new alternator and risk it going out again. Good luck.

Get a Nissan rebuilt, not a cheap auto parts store one. Unless you enjoy changing it.

yo, gunnar t. i was wondering if you have found a solution for your problem. I had the same problem TODAY, my brake and battery lights came on all of a sudden simultaneously, although i was lucky enough to not break down. Lemme know if your problems are resolved by changing the alternator. Thats crazy how this happened to the two of us almost at the same time hahaha. hey good luck with your car, hopefully one of us finds the problem and can shed some light for the other. Im gonna get my battery tested tomorrow or the day after, i just hope my I30 doesn't die on me like your max did. you can find my post that i posted today in the I30 section here http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....=1#post5004594 . again good luck with your car. lemme know if you find that the issue is in fact the alternator. Thanks peace.
