quick question about hot shot headers

i was curious if these are still made. i thought i heard a while back they were going to quit making hearders for the max and that our only option then would be cattman. if someone could help me out that would be great. thanks.

also for those of you that read this is there that much of a difference between the hotshots and cattman gen 2? thanks

They should still sell them cause on the website they are still listed and they are on sale for $499 but to make sure you could email or call them here ya go http://www.hotshot.com/hotshotheaders/ns3017.html
As for the difference probably only the price cause from what ive seen they show similar gains.

Just a comment on the ^ABOVE^ post, I checked it out and the only headers I saw were for the VQ35 and not for the VQ30 (which is what I think xlcrew has). Do they still sell them fot the VQ30?

of course you know, you have to relocate EGR, and have to deal with the o2 sensors (which i know nothing about)

+1 on the EGR, I still have mine plugged off...

I had the front primary o2 sensor relocated to the front collector and the rears I have simulated.

HS headers here, I've had them for over a year n half now- with no problems. My Max has no EGR so I never had to worry bout them. Pretty much anything from cylinder heads to exhaust tip- will fit a 3.0 if its a 3.5L part.

There are no HS vs Cattman dynos to show which header set makes the most power. In order to do this, we would need a baseline and then install HS and then Cattmans to test each header. Its a bit time consuming, if someone pays me for installing HS and then Cattmans to try this out.... I am down

Blackbird, how much would you charge to install a set of headers?

300 bux to install headers and 02 Sims, I can have you in and out in approx 3 hours. Car needs to be cooled off as I do not wanna loose my skin to blistering hot cats.

That's a really quick install!

People can use this to help with their install:

anyone here that has an egr have theyres set up to actually use it? i have a 00 fed spec

i still have my headers sitting in a box, cause i have emissions about every 6months or so and if i fail bad things will happen. so i need these to work properly, the place im having install them claim they can hook it up properly but im always cautious.

if i simulate arent i tricking my ecu, i know sometimes thats can be good, but arent there cons of doing this?

If the shop is really ****, you can fail the visual inspection if they see the sim... But many people hide it out of the way and I cannot think of a shop that would ever fail you for something like that.

In the next couple of weeks I will have my EGR hooked back up since I cannot seem to find a way of getting rid of my CEL without hooking it up.

I don't want it connected, but they dont make EGR sims...

upstate, when u get a chance can u hit me up with pics of how the egr hooks up. i was told id have to have a bung welded onto the headers to get it to work.

You have to have a new EGR fitting welded to the rear manifold... I am hoping to have it done soon. I really wish I had done this BEFORE I installed the headers, but I was told I did not have an EGR so it never crossed my mind and was a total suprise.

I would really like to find a way to trick the ECU like a simulator but I have not found anything yet...

Edit: if you want to see the EGR fitting it is on the Cattman headers since they are made to fit 00's...

is there any way at all to get rid of the EGR from a 2000? and not have any problems. upstatemax do you just have a check engine light for it, or does it hurt your power? just curious, because if it's just a light i can deal with that, but if it's more than i would have to fix it.

I dont think it hurts your engine at all to have it off, Nissan took it off for the 01+ Maximas...

Without re-programming the ECU, it will give you a CEL. I dont really care about the CEL, but I cannot pass my yearly inspection with it on and it will not stay off long enough to do the inspection.

If anyone knows of a way to get rid of the CEL for the EGR without re-connecting it, you would be my best friend...

yeah im gonna have my egr bung welded on far b4 haveing them installed. glad i did my research (ask blackbirdvq cause he knows everything) this time.

forgive my ignorance, but what exactly does the egr do, does it just measure exhaust and recirculate it. could one just maybe hook it up to perhaps a hose off an intake and get it to work. thats probly a really dumb question, but hey im here to learn

The EGR sends exhaust gasses into the intake manifold to reduce combustion chamber temps if they get high...

I already looked into just hooking it into an intake, but it will still give a code because the ECU will realize that the air temp is low ( it looks for HOT air).

Only way to do it right is to have it hooked up.

If the wire harness is the same on 00 Maximas as the 01s... I would try to find a SE 17" wheel 5spd ECU for your car... I need to investigate this a lil bit, I am almost sure I can come up with something like a EGR simulator, but I do not have the time to do this with 3 Maxima 5spd trannies laying in my shop, few Civic ones- all rebuilds for this season. I have more work than time allows...

i have a SE 17" wheel 5spd ECU , why does that make any difference, i read my ecu is different and doesnt have a governer(not like that matters) but other than that i didnt think there was much difference. either way id be in for an egr sim, id rather not cut into my virgin headers if i dont have to.

Yeah but I mean using a 01 ECU in a 00 might be possible- I doubt anyone here has tried it. I recomend using a 5spd SE 17" wheel ECU, it doesn't have a speed limiter- which to me makes a big difference as I love to drive stupid fast on open stretches of the road, and my car has enough power to peg the speedo with no problem- but the limiter stops me at 130 or indicated 135.

I was also looking into this, the only problem my brother (mechanic) could think of if they shared a harness would be passing my state inspection.

It had something to do with the computer knowing from my VIN that my car is a 2000 and then seeing an ECU and programming for a 2001... Sometimes the computer fails you right there.

He was not sure if it would fail me or not, he just has seen a few fail because of swapped ECU's before, but he also told me that he is sure that there has to be some that he has inspected that have gone through fine.

If anyone has an 01, auto, 17" SE ECU sitting around I am more than willing to try this out!

yeah i have to real careful with the emissions by me, my other car failed due to the engine being too out of tune, valve lash, and i had to have it fixed or they were gonna impound it. i was gonna fix it anyway, and once i did we were golden. but somehow my max passed with a y-pipe n cheap warpspeed cat, so its hard to say. that and i think if u fail once, they like know that and judge it more harshly the next time. i swear i ahve to go almost every 6months, i dont really know why, some towns by me dont do it at all. odd.
