the way I drive, I've given up tracking gas mileage. It just got too depressing constantly seeing 20.3, 20.6, 19.7, 22.1 mpg lol....

If I was worried about mileage I would
1. just run regular or mid-grade and deal with the performance loss with my timing advance
2. buy a prius
3. keep the rpms lower

if they are bumping an old thread to continue on the topic, that's perfectly fine. The problem is when people just bump an old thread to up their noob post count....but really, none of us ban anyone even for doing that these days...

that, and i'm not gonna ban an OG for bumping one of MY threads

especially when he's my stalker, and he has a popular .org smiley named after him!

no, the one I have takes about 6 months to fill up about halfway. I haven't emptied it since the beginning of the summer, and it was less than half-full...

Fill the ebay catch can with steel wool if it has no baffles or if the ones in there are not effective which from my experience is all of them. It gives the oil something to 'catch' on and then to drip down...

I know for a fact that mine doesn't catch all the oil blowby, since I have clear tubing going from it to the TB and there is oil residue in it. It only catches some of it.

I have the same one in black, no baffles. Someone above mentioned filling it with steel wool. How do you get steel wool into it? Stuff it through the small holes? And what are the chances of the steel wool disintegrating and going into the motor?

Anyone have a link to the 3.5L write up? I found a few catch can related links, but they seem to be broken. I tried the "old" trick, but it didnt' do it for me, and even then, I don't know if that was even a 3.5L write up or just a general kind of a thing.

Catch can question:

If the can was to fill up completely, and you forget to check it or empty it out, what would happen? Would it just start sucking in oil like before the can was installed, or would it start sucking in larger ammounts, whatever is in the can?

Please use braided fuel lines instead of the braided hose lines I have in those pictures as they have been replaced with braided fuel lines.

Thank you! Is there a link to that somewhere in the 5th gen section? If so, I'd like to know where I missed it... Any idea on the second part of my post? Either way, thanks for the help. Gives me something to do this winter while the Maxima is parked...

Here is the link to the 5th gen section. It use to be in the how-to's but the link is dead. http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=351891

As for the being full part, I'm not sure. I'm guessing it will just pass through the tube and into the pvc. Just make sure you check every month depending on how much you drive.

BUMP from the past!
Any updates as to the longevity of the plastic home made oil catch cans in regards to synthetic oil?
I want to add this to my 4th gen PFI turbo setup.

Do some people use two catch cans? or what does this guy mean in post #6?
"Just remember that you need to catch can the PCV items on both sides, not just one like everybody always does."

The catch can works great in the summer, but in the winter it fills up with fuel vapors in no time. Thinking about taking it off till it warms up.
