Switched out gauge cluster, now mileage reads wrong mileage WTF?

my friend has a 2000 maxima, his gauge cluster went bad (rpm, speedo, oil pressure gauges all quit working) so we replaced the gauge cluster with a used one off ebay now his odometer says 100k miles instead of 60k which is what the car actually has, is this supposed to happen or did we do something wrong? thanks

really funny... what have you been smoking... it's known for ages that milage on these cars is stored in the cluster/speedo itself.

stopped pointing out the obvious over and over and maybe the next person to chime in can help him out.

I think you have to go to the dealer to get it set. Possibly stored somewhere else in your car, but the speedo is what gets displayed. sothey just have to adjust it

the mileage of the car is stored only in the cluster itself. so if you swap out the cluster you will have the mileage of that cluster, not your car.

you have to go to the dealer to get the mileage adjusted (i think) or look on ebay again for another cluster with closer to 60k miles.

Before you buy another one check with the dealership. have the original one to show them you arent trying to commit odometer fraud. Good luck

An outside company adjusts the odometer. You have to check with a nissan dealership to have it handled.

Maybe I should find one with 10k on it and replace my girlfriends cluster. She would think it's like new again.

Just run your car on reverse on some stands for about 40K miles and you're set....
