in cabin air filter?

I just traded in my 96 Maxima for a 2002 Maxima SE at the local honda stealership. I was driving down the road and saw the guy parking it up front so I stopped by. It was an impulse buy b/c it only had 51,000 miles on it and it was a local one owner trade in. The dealer had just gotten it 2 hours before.
Is their an "in cabin" air filter in the 5 generations because the air smells funky for the first couple of minutes? Its not only when I have the a/c on but also when it is on vent.

The filter was standard on the 02/03's I believe. It's behind your glovebox if you want to change it.

Also, if your vents smell, just spray some Lysol through your vents and let it run for a little bit. It should kill the bacteria causing it.

Congrats on the purchase by the way.

At least I try to help other people, and don't belittle them to make myself feel more knowledgeable.

yes, it will fit. the 00/01 had optional air filter, it became standard on 02/03. the filter opening and filter itself are the same.

NAPA man. WIX makes one that looks and feels exactly like the one you would get from Nissan and for likely a less amount of your cash. And I hate when people post that Special Olympics pic.

For lysol comment, where exactly do you pour it into? Someone mentioned vent holes: so pour it in the vent hole above the stereo or above clock under windshield? Could someone confirm who did it? Thanks

I sprayed it in the outside vents right under the windshield where your wipers sit and let it run on the recirculation setting for awhile. Worked fine for me.

Cool! Thanks I figure better ask before I attempt it... Spraying from inside just did not make sense but if it works I was gonna do it

does it smell somewhat like vinigar? cause if it does that means that there was bacteria build up inside your vents, cause the owner must have always used the a/c and since maxima a/c can get freezing cold it prob build a lot of mositure on the inside of the vent, which causes bacteria that smells somewhat like vinigar

I change my incabin filter twice so far...one recently (like 2 months ago)...and the first time, when I first got the car....you can actually smell the car becoming less efficent in filtering with a bad filter

some cars are different....so if it ain't broke, don't fix it...in other words, if u don't smell nuttin unusual, then just leave the incabin filter alone

Optional? Left to choice; not compulsory or automatic.
