fuel pressure regulator

So the Max has been starting real hard when the engine is warm (not turning over until after 3-4 trys)…so I had a mechanic look at it, and they determined that I need a new fuel pressure regulator and a new fuel dampener. Few questions:

1) They gave me a $600 estimate which seems a bit high, being that the parts are only about $180 and after doing some research it doesn’t look all that difficult to put in…am I way off on this?

2) Has anyone ever replaced this on their max? How hard is it? Good sites for info?

3) Also, do Max’s actually have a fuel dampener? I tried to find the part or some info on it, but I can only find them for 300zx’s?

Thanks!

I would nearly put money on it that it is not what he said it is.

How does he know? What proof? Is your SES light on?

good point...check engine light is not on...they said that it was the FPR because they had tested it with a pressure gauge and determined it wasn't keeping enough pressure in the fuel line...when the engine was cold it would turn over fine because the fuel line was contracted, but when it was warm it expanded and the FPR couldn't keep enough pressure...does that make any sense?

NO! Find another mechanic to look at your car.

Follow up...took it to another shop and they confirmed that it was the FPR, however hey only charged $330...also, FYI, on Maxima's the fuel dampener is part of the FPR.

Thanks!
