battery and brake light came on, don't knwo what's going on.
This morning just like yesterday morning, my battery light and brake light all of a sudden came on while driving. After a little while it went back off. I did notice that when they came on, my windows and sunroof worked noticeable slower. I'm guessing there's something going on with wiring somewhere or maybe the abundant moisture in the air. I'm in Manassas, VA.. We've been getting pounded by rain this past how many days now?
Anyways, I'm thinking, hopefully not, the alternator is on it's way out... the same two lights came on again this afternoon when I went out for lunch but went right off within about 10 seconds. hmmm.... anyone had this experience.
When the light comes on, the car still runs fine.
The battery is newer, no corrosion on wires or connectors.

Also, check to make sure your battery cables are secure before having the alternator tested.
Those Energizer battery from Pep Boys, I work there part time (for the discounts of course).. My original battery died a couple of months ago all of a sudden... and I think it may be the alternator that caused it over time. It was new since 2000. But the new battery is only less than a year old. I may try a different battery I have at home.
I was told by a tech that the brake light is on the same circuit as the battery circuit or something like that, so if it comes on because of a charging issue, the brake light will come on too. But the two lights have been off since last night. So I'm thinking this is an intermittant issue. I ordered a new alternator (reman) and I'm going to see if the lights keep coming on and I'll be checking the charging volts later this afternoon to see if it is charging when the light is off. I think the battery is good because the car starts right up very fast. Although I did begin to notice when it does start, it kind of putters for 1 second before it runs smooth. So who knows, I also have a brand new Optima 35/75 and if I put in the new alternator, maybe every electrical anommalies with this car will go away... we'll see ... thanks for the replies.

What does it mean if at idle, the battery light comes on dimly? No brake light though. If I rev it above 1k rpm, the light goes away. The alternator is brand new, I just put it in after swapping out the POS Can Am. I haven't even driven on it yet, this is the first time i cranked it up. Also, the battery is brand new, I just brought it home. The light isn't very bright, it sort of flickers dimly.
Check the connection of the cables to the battery, the cables to the alternator, and anything else that may have been bumped or loosened when swapping out the alternator.
Also, check the charge of the battery itself. If it was on the shelf a long time (very long time, that is), used hard (like no alternator for a while), or is defective, it could be your problem.
And, just because the alternator is new doesn't mean it isn't the problem. Sometimes, alternators aren't built right and end up having to be replaced almost immediately after installing them. I've seen a Toyota go through 4 in a year with 2 having to be swapped out within 50 or so miles! Thank goodness for "lifetime replacement warranties!"

Well, The battery light and brake light never came back on again since Tuesday night. So I now really don't know what was causing the lights to come one. I guess I'll just keep driving it until something happens again. But I'll still hook a load tester on the battery to see if that's still good and then check the charging volts when the car is running.
My Break Light And Battery Light Been Commin On For The Last 4 Months Or So , Really Nothing Major Happend Yet, But I Will Replaced
My Alternator, 2000 Max Ima
Where Can I Get An Alternator?? Nissan Or Pep

Well, I ended up getting a reman alternator with a lifetime warrantee from Pep Boys months ago, back in July, 2006. It's working fine. It too a while to change it myself. Removed the tensioner, radiator, lower hose, moved the ac compressor out of the way, but my hand, and make sure you stuff a rag into the thermostat housing so residual coolant doesn't splash onto the new alternator while you're trying to install it. And of course remember to take the rag back out.
The Nissan one may be a bit better, but you don't get a lifetime warrenty. Just get one from Pep boys and keep your receipt.
It's definitely the alternator.
