Chris, meeting me after the meet should be fine. But it seems we all agree that 5th gen and 5.5 gen are the same.

This is PJ, the third partner of 6th Element Engineering, and I would like to introduce myself to the forum. The shroud design improves literally by the day and the final retail version will meet and exceed the standards of the forum.

As for functionality, the piece does improve air flow through the radiator, but unless it's installed on a dedicated track car the daily driver is not likely to notice any drastic changes.

The best part of the piece is definitely the finish it adds to the engine bay, and it is also very functional as a shelf for tools when wrenching!

Just to let you guys know about a few other projects we have in the works;
  • we are finishing the beta version of a carbon fiber full fairing for a 50cc GP bike
  • we are finishing carbon fiber mirror skins for Subaru Imprezas
  • we are moulding an STi radiator shroud
  • we are moulding an EVO radiator shroud
In addition to all these cool projects, we are doing repairs for people with damaged carbon parts.

We greatly appreciate everybody's enthusiasm and we look forward to serving the Maxima community with high-quality products for many years to come.

Will do, we just finished opening up a business account at the bank and we are just about ready to open a PayPal business account so we can process your orders quickly and easily.

Considering the initial interest on the forum, we may offer a first-time "discount" price to members who pre-purchase a shroud.

As a side note, the shrouds will be available with or without our logo. We always appreciate support for our product, but we understand if you want a clean, stealth look.

I can see how it can look good, if maybe you can figure out how to smooth it out so it doesn't look like its so thin .

Ryan,
Thanks for the input. Chris, Matt and I will consider everybody's suggestions and do our best to implement them into the final design.

Keep in mind the teaser photos are just that; very early pics of the test shroud which is mainly for fitment purposes. Once we get the fitment down, then we will focus our energy on aesthetic finish.

One of the reason it has to be thin Ryan is because of Hood clearance, we've tried up to an 1/8 of an inch in our research (which is very thick in terms of part contstruction) the part itself is around 1/64 of an inch to 1/32 of an inch thick. Unfortunately thicker the part is, the more costly the part becomes and the less likely your hood will close properly. That is the reason it is thin.

Looks nice, could there be a posibility that it could be made of aluminum?

The final retail price will be based on potential sales, market value for similar products and of course fabrication costs. Until we get the prototype to fit perfectly, we will say that the piece will be reasonably priced.

Just to give you all an idea of what other carbon shrouds cost:

http://www.sp-power.com/catalog/inde...acturers_id=95

Needless to say our pricing will be generously competitive.

At the moment there are no plans to offer an aluminum version considering the size of our operation and equipment limitations.

However, as the business grows, we would be very interested in the idea pending demand.

As I mentioned, we are also working out the logistics of offering a discounted price for the first 10 shrouds or so as they are being bought with a good deal of faith in our product.

The fitment issues have pretty much been resolved on the design end and we are just about ready to start retail production.

There should be one or two shrouds on display on the weekend of 07.15 for the regional GTG. I believe that is when we will take the first orders.

Looks pretty nice! Let us know if you have any delam (delamination) problems from the heat. How many layers did you end up using? 3-5? I got about 60 foot sheet of carbon fiber woven in a deep freezer if you might be interested? It's expired but still would be good for vehicle experiments.

Thanks for the comment! Delamination shouldn't be a problem as we are likely using a very durable marine-grade resin to set the carbon fiber and avoid dry fiber. The final number of layers is one last bit of logistical data we are finalizing.

We might be interested in that carbon fiber sheet for prototyping just as you said; we may PM you.

I forgot to mention the woven material I got is prepreg'd, just throw a vacuum down on and and heat her up.

Very cool, Chris (doc2278) is our fabrication manager so once he sees this he'll decide if we can use it. Thanks again.

Damaged CF. My carbon fiber hood is cracked around the hoodpins. But that's a pretty price to pay to send then send back wouldn't be worth it.

Yes unfortunately the shipping costs would probably pay for a brand new hood. If you ever happen to be in south NJ though, Chris has expertly fixed a carbon fiber trunk lid and spoiler.

Absolutely great job on this can't wait to see the final. I was wondering if you ever considered having it go over the lights as well... to cover up everything?

There are endless possibilities and configurations once the initial prototype is fitted perfectly.

We have unfortunately experienced a set-back in production as one of our head fabricators broke his wrist. Updates as they come.

Gotta love it... There is a fabrication shop down the way from me. If we could get enough interest I could possibly get them started on an aluminum type shroud. Let me know and I'll ask them about it.
